Never mind what players are out of contract in the summer .Because I think if we don't get up this time around we may well be looking for a new manager .

Exactly my thinking, contract extensions should be very much a priority for Ron Martin right now and quite frankly Sturrock's should be at the head of the queue!

Tomlin has had a great season and played a lot of games & scored 15? or so goals. I truly hope he stays where he is and gets to that magical "20 goals a season"

Out of interest how much realistically would be good business... £50k, 75k £100k??

Would have to be a lot larger than that to make it worth our while even considering which won't happen as he's nearly 30 now and out of contract this summer. It simply wouldn't make good sense to sell one of our best players and top scorer as it will seriously hurt our promotion chances. Remember Barney?

Is this fact or your supposition ?

Supposition, but it's pretty blatant.

You just need to ask yourself who benefits out of this alleged story becoming public knowledge. We're too many places behind Gillingham for them to be looking at us and thinking how can we unsettle one of their players, although that's entirely the type of thing their scabby manager and equally scabby chairman would do if we were closer. It doesn't aid Gillingham to alert potential suitors if they were genuinely interested, but they are the type of people who'd be compliant in playing along with agents' games.

Look at where it's leaked: not locally with the Echo or the Kent equivalent but by someone who's got national connections.

Look at the timing: just after Tomlin gets a winner and his perceived value amongst fans who can only see as far as his last appearance is at it's highest. Why not in recent weeks when he's been unable to hit a barndoor with a banjo? It's obviously to put pressure on the chairman/chief exec to get a deal done. As soon as his agent gets some leverage he tries to apply it.

I don't blame Tomlin, who I think entered professional football late, for trying to get his market value, but as much as I like him, he's a 29 year old who's had a 2 month hot patch. Let's not start paying him as if he's the second coming of Barry Corr sans the injuries. Lets get a deal done, but at an affordable price.

Think Scriv said this 6/8 weeks back on twitter when a similar story was on the Sky Sports site. However, they did get the Spillane one spot on.

About Tomlin?

Hopefully all this Tomlin business is untrue, He's our top scorer and with Britt injured we need Gav and Corr now more than ever.

About Tomlin?

At the same time, why wouldn't they be genuinely interested? He had a cracking loan spell there and they know what he is all about.

His age and being out of contract... Probably makes him about as good a value punt as you will get in this division.

If its a money thing we may sell and he might get paid more at the Gills. If its football reasons, I don't see it. At Southend = 1st choice, at the Gills = bench Warmer. They have just resigned Coby Macdonald who scored on Saturday and with Kedwell also scoring goals can't see Tomlin being first choice. I'm confident he will stay. Can't see PS or even RM stupid enough to sell to a league rival.

Agent talk as YB has pointed out, nothing more than trying to get a better deal.

Surprised anyone has come in to be honest, he had a great spell, but that followed a very barren one. Saturday saw him get back on the scoresheet after a run without one.

If I was a league two/one manager Id be seriously wondering whether he is likely enough to deliver consistently to spend money on him at his age.

The flip side is that he only has 5 months left on his contract so they may get him cheap, but that also means we probably wouldnt be interested as we arent going to let him go for peanuts because if he hits form again he may be key to promotion, which will be worth far more to us than what we get.
