Gillingham set to put another bid in for Tomlin apparently.
Gillingham set to put another bid in for Tomlin apparently.
They have got Cody McDonald from Coventry on loan who scored at the weekend. If he does sign for them, he surely won't be playing upfront with the strikers they have at the moment.
Unless we get a silly offer, we must try and keep him. Alternatively, we could dress Benyon up as Tomlin and sell him to them ...
Six months ago 100K was bad business........I presume 10K would be considered good business now. :sad:Chris Phillips ‏@CJPhillips1982
Bilel Mohsni is training with Stevenage with a view to transfer.

but you know its gonna come back to kick us up the xxxxx eh:'(If they gave us £10 I would drive him there. Useless waste of space, doesn't deserve his footballing talent.

KSN understands Gillingham are to return to Southend United with an improved bid for striker Gavin Tomlin after their first was turned down.
If we did have the chance to face them in the League next season I suppose we could always try and re-sign Gilbert! :winking:but you know its gonna come back to kick us up the xxxxx eh:'(

Gonna be kept on a leash by Granty?
Supposition, but it's pretty blatant.
You just need to ask yourself who benefits out of this alleged story becoming public knowledge. We're too many places behind Gillingham for them to be looking at us and thinking how can we unsettle one of their players, although that's entirely the type of thing their scabby manager and equally scabby chairman would do if we were closer. It doesn't aid Gillingham to alert potential suitors if they were genuinely interested, but they are the type of people who'd be compliant in playing along with agents' games.
Look at where it's leaked: not locally with the Echo or the Kent equivalent but by someone who's got national connections.
Look at the timing: just after Tomlin gets a winner and his perceived value amongst fans who can only see as far as his last appearance is at it's highest. Why not in recent weeks when he's been unable to hit a barndoor with a banjo? It's obviously to put pressure on the chairman/chief exec to get a deal done. As soon as his agent gets some leverage he tries to apply it.
I don't blame Tomlin, who I think entered professional football late, for trying to get his market value, but as much as I like him, he's a 29 year old who's had a 2 month hot patch. Let's not start paying him as if he's the second coming of Barry Corr sans the injuries. Lets get a deal done, but at an affordable price.
About Tomlin?
How about forcing the price up for Tomlin to finance a deal for Benson ?.....
He's joined Cheltenham today on loan to the end of the season with a view to a permanent deal.

How the funk can they afford him and we cant?
How the funk can they afford him and we cant?
Because we haven't got a pot to urinate in and Cheltenham have some cash available from their cup run.
Maybe they have a smaller squad than us...I haven't done the research, really can't be bothered - but several on here amazed Cheltenham can afford him but we can't - but our squad may be bigger than theirs, maybe Cheltenham are going for quality rather than quantity. Just a thought?
Story below from their chairman regarding cup revenues and re-investment in the playing staff. For me, Cheltenham are a very tidily run club...
