Bid from Gillingham for Tomlin rejected.

According to SSN sorry I haven't got a link as I'm on my iPad but it has just flicked up on my Sky Sports News app.

Sky Sports understands Southend have rejected a bid from Gillingham for striker Gavin Tomlin.

Tomlin has impressed for Southend this season, netting 15 goals in all competitions for the Shrimpers.

A host of clubs are thought to be interested in Tomlin and Gillingham have now made a move for the former Brentford and Dagenham & Redbridge man by tabling a bid for his services.

Gillingham boss Martin Allen is keen to bolster his attacking options as he looks to maintain their promotion push and he is thought to be a big admirer of Tomlin.

Tomlin had a spell on loan at Gillingham last season, scoring six goals in ten appearances.

The 29-year-old out of contract at Southend in the summer and the club's financial situation could force them to part ways with the frontman.

From sky sports.

I would be most upset if we lost Clohessy. Has easily been the most consistent performer of the Sturrock era.

We spend a lot of time on here debating who we will sign --- we hardly mention about other clubs wanting our players.

Only four days left till window closes.

If we can keep all our players that we want to keep then we should start contract talks as soon as the transfer window closes.

They can FRO, not good enough for them before so they can whistle.

Exactly. Why would he want to leave the club he has finally hit a decent bit of form for a club who didn't want him before? He is better off staying with us for the rest of the season and either play out his contract and go somewhere better for free or stay if we get promoted and possibly attract higher up attention. But we all know its only about money in football these days. Loic Remy is a prime example.

Hi all, this is my first posting since joining the forum.
If we are serious about trying to go up this season, then we can't be seen to be selling our best players to our current fellow promotion contenders. But, as in the past, we know that money talks as far as the board of Southend is concerned. At least the outcome will show if they are serious about moving the club forward.
