A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

Wrexham, Stockport, Notts County and even Solihull Moores can offer more than sufc interms of transfer fees and wages........ the business we have done so far is decent but we still need 3/4 players in before a ball is kicked! With Goalkeeper and striker being the main priorities. Good start in the National league is what sufc need to stand a chance of return to efl at the first attempt.

I'm hoping the next batch of sufc signings are players in their mid 20s..... if we continue signings players in their 30s, sufc won't have the right balance to the squad. Also players who are in their 30s are more at risk of picking up injuries.

Thinking of the possibly richer, I wonder if Wrexham will be installed as favourites, given their Hollywood Actors investments

They have really suffered, 15 years in the Wilderness

I think Ryan Reynolds and his mate have stuck in an initial £2m and they are after a new Manager, with Phil Parkinson as bookies favourite

Ron knows its not all about money and used to rant, quite reasonably, when clubs running on a shoe string to us, gained promotion. Equally forking out for ageing megastars was not his best plan ever

Hughes last Manager at Wrexham didnt do to well with his £1.257m budget and they have more or less had a budget every year of around £1msince demotion, Larger gate capacity too than many

P.s.On their site mocking our signing of Dunne, and giving us no chance of going back up if continue with similar signings

Mind you only 4 teams ever gone straight back up, average is 4 to 5 years for relegated sides as we know

Hope Dunny tears em one !!

Why should we be paying transfer fees for players?

In the recent past, we’ve barely paid our players, other staff members, taxman, local business etc.

Every summer, there are 100s and 100s of players on free transfers. Even more so this summer as clubs cut their cloths according because of the pandemic, wages budgets, squad size limits etc.

There is more than enough quality in free transfers for the Club to achieve their goals.

Free transfers doesn’t always mean lesser quality. Some of our better players have been free transfers.

What I will say, is for the first time in a long time, there is joined up thinking between all the decision makers at the Club (RM, PB, RD, CF & TL) and we aren’t being held to ransom by players (transfer targets and existing players contracts). We’ve missed out on some players as we couldn’t match the wages they demanded. We aren’t offering “cheap” wages, but aren’t going to the extremes we’ve done in the past to recruit players.

The players we’ve signed so far, and the ones we will be signing soon, genuinely want to play for the Club, make a fist of getting back into the Football League and not because we’ve offered the biggest wage, which hasn’t always been the case.

I know at least one of the players we’ve signed, could have stayed at their Club, or moved to other Clubs for more money.

I’d expect a GK to be next through the door, I’ve not been told any names on that, but Oxley is a goner and his replacement will be through the door sooner rather than later. I’d expect the vast majority of our business to be done before the start of pre-season.

PB and his team, have been working round the clock, have travelled huge miles, and spent hours on the phone trying to get players in. Meetings have taken place across the country, and at all different times.

You’ve missed out Anton Robinson. In the Ogogo interview he said Anton contacted him first to say there was interest from us and was he interested.

I couldn’t remember the guys name, but yes, you are correct with him too.

Nice to have them all singing from the same hymn sheet, which hasn’t always been the way for a little while now.

Not quite sure how it will work this year but we have in the past picked up players from trials pre-season. We are down another step of the pyramid which may mean that if we did find interest in a trial player (or two), those players may try to "temporise" & pick up offers from league clubs before accepting anything from us.

You could possibly add in Lennon to the
mix if fit , if Phil Brown fancies him, and previously our fastest player.

im intrigued on the money front and given our new era of transparency , can we confirm at next Zoom meeting or before if anyone knows on here , what exactly our Parachute payment will be.

I last read the basic award to be paid at 100% to relegated clubs from league 2 was £475k, reducing to half that next year

key questions ...do we still receive in addition any Solidarity money , and or funds for our Academy and Community. Previously overall we received around £1.3m I think

Ron almost boasted in one recent Zoomer about much he has slashed the wage bill and so I can’t quite believe we are very strapped, indeed are we likely to be wealthier than many other NL clubs and could maybe afford the odd modest purchase.?

Any “in the knowers “ able to confirm the overall total pot we will receive from the EFL this year and if not can we ask?
Regarding the solidarity payment Barry, Ron did confirm that is what we would lose straight away next season, to the cost of approx. £465k in one of the last zoom meetings.

That was the meeting where he said some of that would be dealt with in the reduction of playing salaries.

Academy funding was retained for next season and 6 months into the following season, one of the reasons why an immediate return to the EFL was essential.

Not sure he mentioned exactly what the parachute payments were exactly, but I guess they will also go towards off setting the loss of the solidarity payment from the Premier League.

I hope that helps a little?

That was one post on Dunne, there was more antipathy to us signing Rhys Murphy, with one poster calling the signing shambolic, so he's the one I hope has a field day against them, bearing in mind he got a hat-trick at The racecourse a couple of seasons ago...same again please Rhys!

Three interesting signings made by chesterfield:

Jack Clarke, midfielder, on a permanent from Villa. He spent last half of the season on loan with them, aged 22.

Calvin Miller, winger from Harrogate, aged 23. On loan with Notts County previously.

Jeff King, full back 25 from FC Halifax and named in NL team of the year last season.

On paper, three solid signings, who know what the NL is all about. Also a sign that this division, if we didn't know it already, is going to be no cakewalk to get out of.

It works the same in the NL , albeit the level of players tend to be of NL standard.

I hope Emile goes on and does well for himself.. just of course not at the expense of ourselves. Some of the abuse the lad received from those on here, on that horrible Facebook group and even now on the Maidenhead tweet announcing his arrival is disgusting. Absolutely nothing wrong with Emile not being everybody’s type of player but as one of our own, he deserves a bit more respect in my opinion.

I couldn't agree more. Good luck Emile and thanks for trying your best while you were here.

Third that, wouldn't abuse him and nothing wrong with his effort, but you can't ignore what is in front of your eyes week after week. Sorry to say at L2 level, Emile was just not good enough. If we hadn't been desperate and in a transfer embargo, he wouldn't have been brought back. Not to mention the fact that no-one took a punt on him and he was a free agent, which was why we were able to take him back in the first place.

There's not a lot of difference between L2 and Nl, so I think he will struggle again, I hope he doesn't, but once again it is down to ability, not how nice a person is or where he comes from.
