A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

Despite your fixation (and you are not the only culprit ) with that one occasion when the keeper successfully guessed -Akinola’s intentions -it happens to all penalty-takers - you will find ,if you care to look, that he has an excellent record for penalty conversions. That is why he was and I’d imagine still will be,our designated penalty taker.

Yes, I think I am fixated on it Zeuss. It just seemed to sum up our season. It looked lazy and lacking in confidence. I've never liked penalty takers who prat about. Just take a good long run up, sell the keeper a dummy and leather it.

Run up hard and belt it. The keeper didn't guess the right way because Mendes Gomes deceived him. Simples.

The harder you try and hit it the less control over where it’s going you have, which leaves even more to chance. If the keeper goes the right way or stands still he will still save it and some smart arse will say “the keeper didn’t move, all he had to do was roll it into the corner”

???

The chances are that if the keeper pauses and/or dives the right way at a softly hit penalty taken by an arrogant fu*ker he’ll save it.

Pass it sideways - works every time.

Have you ever bothered to look at the best penalty takers in the past?

Matt le Tissier scored 48 penalties out of 49. A conversion rate of 98per cent. He said that he never really had a "tactic" for penalties; he simply just loved to smash the ball into the back of the net.

No never. But I bet you have....and I’m sure you’re going to put me straight and I bet you can explain how in the old days they all smashed it really hard whilst trying to really hard to score with maximum effort and real intent and positive attitude with no fancy dan, tippy tappy, flashy show off, new skilful ways of tricks flicks and disguise ???

Bruno Fernandez has scored 41 of 44 penalties. Mario Balotelli has scored 19 from 19. Eden Hazard 50 from 57.....these are all at the very top level where the pressure is at the highest.

All three favour trying to outwit the goalkeeper usually rolling the ball in calmly having seen the keeper move.

There is no right or wrong way. The fact remains regardless of the style....that should the keeper outwit you and go the right way or stand still he has a great chance of saving it and with that there will ALWAYS be someone who has a better idea on how you should’ve taken it!!!

......and in the old days how many consecutive penalties did Alan Moody score?

About a dozen or so wasn't it?

Alan scored 41 goals for us.

I reckon most of those were penalties.

I remember the astonishment when he eventually missed one.

Roger will probably know the exact stats.

He didn’t tippy tap penalties and his defending lacked tippy tap too.

Only 24 apparently.I look foward to Andrew's comments!

I would like to see a tall striker like Danilo Orsi-Dadomo (Maidenhead) as an option upfront for Southend.
We seem intent on bringing in free agents/out of contract players. If you’re looking for the better quality players in this league the majority have been contracted already for next season and you’ll need to spend the cash to prize them away. The big cash in this league is normally spent on transfer for strikers:- Rooney at Solihull, Rowe at Chesterfield and Madden at Stockport are just three examples. When you look at the top 6 or 7 top strikers in this league they will cost money. Several clubs at this level are prepared to factor this into their budget.

Orsi-Dadomo is out of contract at the end of June 2021.

That may well be the case but there could be an option or his club may have already made him an offer. I doubt for one minute that they have released him. A large number of players at this level are on one or two year contracts and tend to expire at the end of June. This is the time of the year when clubs look at contracts, let’s not forget that the NL season only finished a few days ago.

I think you are right. Alan Devonshire, the Maidenhead manager, clearly regards Orsi-Dadamo as a major asset. This player scored 19 goals in his full season at the club and was voted player of the year. 6' 2" strikers like Orsi-Dadamo will be in great demand.
