As per the above, Chris Phillips has tweeted that we are close to signing an experienced midfielder and now replies to say that no.4 would be a good squad number for him.

Sounds like Wordsworth to me!

Wouldn’t be totally against bringing him back, was gutted when he left. I do worry though that we seem to be linked with a hell of a lot of former players who have all left for one reason or another.

From CP's non too cryptic clue, I would think you're right. Appears to be an old boys reunion rather than a clear out? Now, if we could get Pigott back..................... :Winking:

This shouldn't surprise. If you know a player and have worked with him, and know what he brings and its positive why not? PB has worked with 100s of players- is it surprising out of all those there are a relative small number he would be happy to bring back. The master of this was Paul Sturrock (no-one else would have been stupid enough to sign Barry Corr I guess ...)
BTW PB worked with Rhys Murphy as well at Preston didn't he? I guess that's bad too..
 
It's fine signing players you worked with a few years ago, but Wordsworth was pretty ropey towards the end of his time with us, hence CP not playing him. Looked knackered and unfocused, like he was on his way out career wise really. Not done much with a poor Barnet side either has he? I think this signing would signal 'jobs for the boys' rather than serious ambition.

Wordsworth was injury prone when we signed him in 2015, aged 26. He managed 80 games in three seasons, averaging 26-27 per season. He is now 32 and we now see it as a wise signing?!

Can't wait for PB to approach MAF or Ferdinand next...

PB was sacked before Preston signed Murphy
