A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

The fact that Akinde did not go to Exeter - when they were challenging for promotion - suggests he does not want to move too far from where he is currently based. Apparently, Akinde had a fairly long commute when he played for Lincoln.

I take that on board, and it’s perfectly understandable that at 32-years of age he will want to remain local to where he currently lives.

It took a lot of time and negotiation before Akinde committed to the move from Barnet to Lincoln. The Cowley brothers even went as far as to facilitate a new job in Lincolnshire for Akinde's wife to help with the settling in process. They took the view that if John's family were happy, then he would be focussed on the pitch and play his best football.
I think eventually John and his family became home sick and a move back to down south to Gillingham made sense all round. It got John's £4k a week wage off the books and they reinvested elsewhere in the team. He took a significant drop in pay to sign for the Gills.

Many thanks for that information, Lincoln Shrimp. I thought I had read that Akinde was already commuting to play for Lincoln but I realise now I misread the article and that Akinde's family were in Lincoln and missing the south:

Do we really need another striker? We have Murphy, Dalby, Akinola and young Rush - I know Akinola seems to have been frozen out under PB already, but he's under contract and surely could do a job in the National League, even just as back-up to Murphy/Dalby.

Akinde has just turned 32. If we are actually after him, I would rather that money was spent elsewhere.

But he would be the difference between mid table and a challenge to going up?

It's less about needing another forward and more about needing someone else who can hold the ball up.

We have struggled to score…. He wouldn’t in my opinion … fair play to what you think tho ?? Murphy and akinde would destroy the division

It wouldn't even be in the top 3 forward lines in the National League.

Stockport have Quigley, Madden, and another fella whose name escapes me who got 17 last year.
Wrexham have Mullin, McAlinden and Hyde.
Chesterfield have Asante and Danny Rowe.

And there are plenty of other clubs who would fancy their strike force over ours including the likes of Boreham Wood, Solihull and Dagenham.

Don't think for one minute we are a big hitter in this division.

I agree with Jai. I think we'll struggle for goals and certainly won't tear up the Division. Our most successful teams had plenty of goals coming from midfield and wingers. Some scoring over 10 a season. Our centre backs would score quite a few as well. Our wingers and midfield will struggle to score ten between them. Unless we address that, we're in for a rude awakening this season. We need Ron Martin and Phil Brown to pull a few specials out of the hat.

You forgot notts county forward line...... kyle whotton and Ruben Rodriguez are very good at this level and both could play higher.

Why do people think it’s Akinde?
we went after him in January and he rejected us but that was MM going for him. what makes anyone think PB wants him or that he would decide to drop two divisions. Would be very surprised and disappointed if it is Akinde. Think his attitude in January was poor so wouldn’t want him now
Ok his attitude was not good! But who cares if he joins us and smashes in the goals to get us promoted.U wont be worrying about what happened in january will u?

enough on Akinde just wait and see , personally i would rather look elsewhere and PB treat this season as a building season for the club and push for promotion next season
