A Bit of Fun Transfer Rumours Thread (Potential New Signings)

Watching that video i would say sign him up quick smart

As I said he is a great little player, a new club may kick start his career he has massive potential. He reminds me of another decent young player we let go, Macauley Bonne a player with so much talent but was never really played as he should have been. Look at the number of goals he scored for Orient, 45 in 90 games.

We're pretty big in the NL, but fortunately not the biggest. Notts County are much bigger. Wrexham soon will be if they aren't already. Stockport....? Grimsby...? Chesterfield....? We're in the top six but I wouldn't know exactly where in that bunch. Since only two get promoted that's a bit concerning......

It will be interesting to see how you get on, money is the big thing in there because some clubs are chucking lots of it around, big fan bases help too but if you have the cash to make one or two top quality signings it makes a huge difference down there, that's why Stockport dived in for Paddy Madden.

Courtney was at Brentford as a youngster and we picked him up after they disbanded their academy. Still only 23 he has played nearly 150 1st team games for us. Lightening quick and with a high skill level but has lost his way a little in the last 12 months. If he can rediscover his spark he will be a great signing for someone, a season or two ago lots of clubs from the Championship were watching him.

I remember thinking it was a real coup you guys getting Senior. He was mentioned in The Nowhere Men book as being incredibly highly rated as a 16 year old and had clubs all over the country interested

He came to us because when Brentford closed their very succesful academy one of their top guys (Jon De Souza) who had all sorts of roles in the academy but was under 21s/18s manager when they closed it, came to work for us. He is still here and has had various roles with us too,(Currently Technical director) he was also academy manager at Luton for 6 years.

Inih Effiong could be a striker we look at. 6ft4, 30 years of age. Plethora of non-league experience

- 39 goals in 68 games at Southern Premier

- 8 goals in 28 at Woking

- 25 goals in 80 at Dover

They are the stats that stand out, earned him a move to Stevenage this season where it didn't quite fall for him. Loaned back into the national

Sorry but what.. I’m not one who usually cares about the “we’re bigger than you” debate you see all over social media etc but the same Wrexham who have been a non league club for over a decade are bigger than us? Grimsby?? Chesterfield?? How do you come to the conclusion that they are all bigger than us?
I’d genuinely like to know.

Totally agree. What even makes a club a big or a small club? Size of ground? History? Years spent in higher leagues? Budget? Fan base? Average gates? All of the above?

If you look at each factor above individually, you could easily make a case for numerous different clubs being the biggest in the league. Notts County trump us on history and I imagine Wrexham trump us on budget for starters.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think players will be falling over themselves and signing a contract no matter what numbers we put on a bit of paper just because we’re the ‘mighty’ Southend. If we offer someone £1500 a week and Solihull Moors offer them £2000 a week, you can probably expect to see them lining up for Solihull Moors next season!

It's irrelevant how "big" a club we are, players want to go where they'll get paid the most, have their wages paid on time, and feel that they are joining a club who are at the very least getting their act together. We have the lowest reputation of probably most clubs across player agents, we have a history of not paying wages, we still don't really have our act together, and there are a lot of clubs with a LOT of money to spend (much more than us) queuing to come up to the EFL. This is why we're not coming back any time soon.

Regards to senior...... What I saw of him at roots Hall on boxing day, I didn't think he looked any good if I'm honest also I notice his lack of work rate. So from that point I'd rather sufc didn't sign him.

Well it's just a discussion issue I suppose. History has something to do with it. So Grimsby have had 50 seasons in the second tier and 22 years in the top tier Premiership equivalent. When I was growing up they were a Division 2 side clearly larger than us. In terms of stadium and attendances they are very similar to us.

Chesterfield have also spent longer than us in tier 2 and have a similar stadium.

Taking just the last ten seasons though I guess we would be bigger than both. Not that it really matters. What matters is that we can beat them. ?

Yes he is going through a bad patch this season, I don’t know what the issue is, I think he just needs a new challenge, he will get another club no problem.

Brandon Goodship scored something like 75 goals in 80 odd games in NL, and that tells you it doesn’t always mean anything.

I think we should be aiming higher

A realistic suggestion, I like it. This is the sort of players I think we're capable of signing right now.
