So Collin gets ill and we can get a loanee in within days.

We have a stand out issue all season with strikers scoring and apart from Bim, we've done nothing to fix it.

Hmmmm
The difference is goalkeepers are readily available at all clubs…. Well except ours. But at most league clubs they’ll have 3 or 4 keepers and only vying for one spot. Easy to get someone to come on a short term loan.

Striker is a harder role to fill and trying to get the right signing to replace Pepple must be tough. If only we had a whiteboard full of names of targets built from a great scouting network 🤔

Seeing as this transfer rumours thread literally has opinions than rumours, i'll poke my oar in. In previous seasons in the National League we have got to January realising its glaringly obvious we needed to bolster the squad. I remember being a bit vocal on the squad improvement subject, in my mind realising it wouldnt take a great deal of effort to reach the playoffs, certainly the year before last. Unfortunately the umbongo prevented us and before that we had no budget.
But here we are again, playoffs possible and a bonus Wembley trip not out of the equation.
Can't help but feel what we'll be putting out against Barnet this week wont be enough for a win and going forward that squad wont cope with 2 games a week as we play catchup.
So praying as are others for some quality upfront and out wide to arrive and kick us on with confidence. Pepple exiting is a blow, make no bones about that. That squad needs a boost and quick.
There, got that off my chest. I've joined the drum beaters.

"We are at the halfway point in the National League.

Going into the New Year, this is often the time where most teams will shuffle the pack and add to their side.

In the case of Southend United, they have work to do in the transfer market,
with Zach Jeacock and Aribim Pepple both having recently left the club after both of their parent clubs exercised recall options in their temporary deals at Roots Hall. As such, The Blues look decidedly short in the goalkeeping department as well as the top end of the pitch.

On top of this, there are a couple of positions in which most United fans still feel that they could do with strengthening if they are to make up the required ground on the play-off places.

I saw a Southend United fan on Twitter called EunieSUFC that gave their insight on where they felt The Blues needed to add to their side during the next month or so if they are to make a concerted push for the play-offs.

With that in mind, I have taken a look at some targets that I think they should try to sign."

Interesting and Worth a good look thanks to Borehams posted link, Wonder if we may have looked at some of these posted by off the line Blog from his article

Does he not seem to be in the Josh Walker mould of player? I’ve not seen him play but I feel Walker fills this role with us.

If we create chances for Walker, he’ll score IMO. Just been unlucky with injuries at start of season.

I think you start Bonne / Kendall and bring on Walker for Kendall when he’s run himself into the ground.

Both Walker and Kendall need someone to play alongside.

I still think Waldron needs a fair crack but don’t think Kev will give him it for whatever reason.

This season we've also brought in Kendall and Bonne.

They may not have worked out yet, but we've done far more than just Bim.

I said "we have a stand out issue all season with strikers scoring..."

Kendall and Bonne have done nothing to arrest that, try reading instead of trying to be too clever all the time!

Yes Oldham and Gateshead have been very busy in January

Over the l just last 7 transfer days alone 19 Loans have been arranged ( 8 of which were extended ) ands 4 permanent signings

You're right Barry. of the two clubs you mention in particular, Oldham realise what this time of season can mean and are very busy, also like our fanbase theirs understand what the Jan window could mean for their hopes this season. As one of their fans says:

"Well you're not wrong, but that's more for summer signings for me, where they can have a preseason etc. I think it's a bit of a Micky Mellon thing as well, I'd like to see more of Uchegbulam, Hammond and Hobson when he's fit where possible, but MM definitely likes his experience.

But as well, mid season is all about getting what you need in that moment in time, players that can come in and do a job straight away.

And that's all exacerbated when you're hopefully gonna be in a closely fought promotion tussle, and there's only one auto promotion place. You've got to be a bit ruthless and singularly focused in the National League, you'd like to think we'd broaden and stabilise our recruitment if we managed to go up though."

Gateshead, as I highlighted earlier in the month, have lost the spine of their team and are acting straight away to replace, unencumbered by off the field finances to the extent we are, maybe gives them the ability to act quicker? It will be interesting to see how their promotion push manifests from now until May, knowing they won't have the ground lease issue if they went up.

Even Ebbsfleet have been active, apart from Moncur, another player who has been on loan with us in the past, Aaron Cosgrove signed from Halifax and has hit 3 in 8 so far for them. another local lad, he hails from Shenfield, so it might be worth the scouts keeping an eye on him and how he performs in the back half of the season there, if as is likely they go back down to NLS.
