A lot of aggressive and fairly unattractive comments floating around on social media, seemingly unhappy that there haven't been a boatload of signings in the first 24 hours after the embargo was lifted. New owners in situ, taking grief immediately. Southend fans at their worst.

Firstly we need to to remember that a load of new faces in a dressing room that is clearly tightly knit, would very likely be counter productive.

Secondly there's the fact that the new owners may want to have some sort of budget in place. In fact they would be utterly insane if they didn't. Perfectly reasonable that they take a short period of time to have a more detailed discussion with the management team than they've probably been able to have to date.

Thirdly there's probably a few players out there with whom we've had the "we'd like to sign you if we could" conversation. That doesn't mean they are in a position to join us the instant the embargo is lifted. If for example we were after a chap at Weston Super Mare, we'd need to do things the right way - approach them and say we're in a position to sign players and we'd like to talk to X - for their football staff and directors to have a chat and say they are OK with that - for both parties to negotiate a price (bearing in mind clubs will be very aware we're desperate to sign players and will price them accordingly) - for us to then negotiate terms with X - and for X then to say that Weston Super Mare have been very good to him and he's not walking out 24 hours before a game and will join us next week.

Some of the comments I've seen display the arrogance that some of our fans had when we were relegated into this league - "it's tin pot - we'll **** it" etc etc. Having the ability sign players is a massive step forwards for us, but it entitles us to nothing and it guarantees us nothing. There are plenty of other decent sides in this division - we need to be a little more respectful and not assume that the ability to sign players will bring immediate and inevitable success.

I’m under the impression that the formalities have been agreed with some players already and we are awaiting the announcements rather than the full end to end negotiations.

It's the social media society we live in. People want news instantly and get upset if they have to wait.

It's not just a Southend fan thing, thankfully.

Any new players have to fit into the camaraderie that the present squad has, otherwise the season could unravel.

What some need to remember that when we were able to field our strongest team we were more than a match for anyone. The team doesn't need drastic surgery. Obviously an initial couple of players will be more than helpful to give Kevin more choice and a chance to rest those that have been carrying injuries.

I cannot see our management team making wholesale changes, that just isn't needed.

As some have mentioned already, I really like the fact that three players who have shown a tremendous amount of loyalty to our club have been rewarded with new contracts before any new arrivals have been announced. All three players are very deserving of their new deals. It’s so nice to finally see the club do things in a correct fashion for a change.

Great post.

The usual impatience of football fans has been massively compounded by recent events tho. So im not surprised. Will settle down as we become a "normal" club again.

100% this

Agreed but I think we need at least 4 to have the luxury of making substitutes and giving players rest for their welfare
