Ainsworth looks better appointment than maher due to his previous promotion campaigns with wycombe on low budget. Though not sure Ainsworth would want to manage in league 2 again. Maybe that's why gills are interested in maher & co. Local job in league 2 with bigger budget, can see that being pretty tempting.

Tough one. Right now Kevin’s reputation and market value has never been higher. It’s not just what he has dealt with but how he has dealt with it. The team are also building a brand of football (a true passing and ball retention game) which would go down well at any club and certainly at a higher level. Does he pass up this opportunity, risk a poor start to the new season or, due to takeover being stalled, another season treading water? Alternatively, take the chance at Gillingham, move up the pyramid and manage another club with potential and a budget?

I’m sure Gillingham will give him a hefty pay rise and Kev has a family to look after. While we “expect” loyalty from him, will we show the same loyalty if we’re not flying after ten games next season?

I don’t really know what’s best for him. I’d love him to stay with the takeover being wrapped up so he gets a proper shot at promotion but life’s short in football if you don’t take opportunities to step up.

Tilson didnt take his opportunities when his reputation was at its highest when managing us and look what happened to him

Conversations were had last time they came knocking and i believe KM was interested enough, but his preference was to stay here. I can’t see that anything would have changed, at this point in time anyway.

Indeed. He wouldn't have signed a new contract otherwise. I know his patience has been tested, but it appears we're not too far away from JR & Co. getting control of the club.

Can't see us giving permission to Gills to speak to him, and can't see him asking SUFC for permission to speak to him either, personally.

Here's my scout report on the National League's top goal-scorer: Paul McCallum.
🔹 Technical, physical, tactical and mental profiles assessed
🔹 How he could fit into Southend United's system

Great stuff.

People moan about a Plan B - I think he would definitely offer us a different kind of outlet in that respect, if we're genuinely struggling to pass our way through an effective opposition high press.

He’s not going to join us to be Plan B off the bench.

Still can't see it, myself.....but you never know, I guess!
Objectively its an ok move, on paper etc,

Realistically though if kev moved to gillingham now he may as well just flush his considerable achievements these past 2 years down the toilet, along with a considerable part of his lifes legacy with us,

Im not saying he should or indeed could be with us indefinitely, but to leave now would be incredibly short sighted with the consortium in the wings and hopefully better times to come.

Where did I mention anything about coming off the bench? You'd have him on the pitch for his goalscoring ratio alone. The geezer has just ****ted 31 league goals. I'm just saying that he would also offer something different to our other strikers, which is an additional benefit over and above his goalscoring record.

king Kev is not going anywhere unless the RAT does the dirty on the consortium

Re kev, perhaps keV is not the option... Ive always found it slightly odd that we have 3 amigos. Currie also has some very good mgt experience and part of the keV leadership team. Either kev goes or maybe it's Currie that is up for the role.

There is no logic or sensibility to what I'm about to post, but if Gus were to sign for the Sheep managed by the Cowleys, he would be dead to me from then on in. The Cowley boys have never had a good word to say about Southend Utd since the Concord days and signing for the Sheep would compound it. The only commonality I can think of between the Cowleys and Gus is that they were all part time PE teachers once.
In fairness to them, nor did anyone because of Ron.

I know for a FACT, that during his interview KM specifically mentioned this and said he wouldn’t make that same mistake that Tilly made.

Gillingham is not really Norwich so will be surprised if they could tempt him in any case.
