A lot of our players have reached or about to reach 100 games. In my world they are experienced, just not vastly experienced. We had 2 very experienced players in Murphy and Hyde and that didn't work. Experience was never a rip roaring success with Phil Brown, so I will settle for whatever the current management team want.

This is an experienced squad

League appearances (this level and higher)
Harry Taylor 236
Cav Miley 259
Demetriou 486
Bridge 210
Fonguck 196
Ralph 265
Husin 143 league games (and 20 international appearances)
Dave Martin 356

If we include lower levels Gus had played over 200 senior men’s games before joining us! He’s since played 77 times for us and twice for England C.

We’ve only 5 players under contract that are under 26 (ages at start of next season)

Coker 21
Collin 21
Crowther 23
Kensdale 24
Morton 25

If anything this is a squad that needs an injection of youth to keep it young.

Must admit would like to see Mcallum here but don’t think we need another keeper. Martins more than capable. We can always dip into the loan market if needed,

With 7 subs coming into play next season, it may make sense to have 2 gk on the bench now and means we need better strength in depth to bring on. More options

Lots of people getting misty-eyed about a loanee who stood out, when to do otherwise would have been criminal considering the dross he played alongside for us.
Exactly this. Hard to say how good Brunt or Olayinka actually were, because we were so regimented that both stood out simply because they could move with the ball. Were they decent, or did they shine amongst dross? I maintain that of the two Sheffield United loanees, Harrison Neal was clearly the better player.

If we include David Martin we currently only have squad of 17, so we could bring in another 9 to be competitive ?

As it stands, on Wednesday 1st May at 07:47, we do not have any bids on the table for any of our players, nor have we had any so far.

That’s not to say we won’t have bids, I think we are expecting bids, but most of our assets are under contract so will take a decent bid for us to consider it.
Yes it’s early days, we haven’t even issued our retained list yet! I know some of our staff had been at Roots Hall to watch one of your players which I have now been told is Gus. No doubt we have many players in mind as clubs make their minds up who is staying or leaving. We have paid fees for quite a few in our squad so if the Cowley's want him I am sure we will come in with a bid, one thing is pretty certain there will be lots of comings and goings at our club!

Ethan Ross would be an excellent signing IMO still one of my favourite goalkeepers in the league after the banter at the Alty away game this season
Ethan is a lovely bloke who was very popular with our fans during his 2 years here, unfortunately he was either out of the squad or on the subs bench most of the time, playing only 4 1st team games in 2 seasons!

Yeah, the Championship and the Premier League haven’t even finished their regulation seasons, let alone the play-offs in the other divisions.

Still very early days for everyone.

A lot of our players have been watched this season, and some players have impressed visiting scouts when they haven’t even been looking at them.

Whether buying clubs will match the valuation we have on our players, who knows.

There is no logic or sensibility to what I'm about to post, but if Gus were to sign for the Sheep managed by the Cowleys, he would be dead to me from then on in. The Cowley boys have never had a good word to say about Southend Utd since the Concord days and signing for the Sheep would compound it. The only commonality I can think of between the Cowleys and Gus is that they were all part time PE teachers once.

While he was better than most, I don’t think he really did stand out. He held on to the ball too long, going on some bursts where he took it past a few players, but rarely anything came from it. Half the time he could have passed the ball and saved his energy.

I don't think he stood out. He was playing in a poor team and fitted right in.
I think he looked good but injuries have since hit him hard at crucial points in his development, and I haven't seen much of him recently, probably not the sort of risk we are going for right now.

Have any of them been promoted from this level? That's the kinda experience I think we need. Not alot but one or two,

I think Martin may possibly be a bit happier now inevitably two keepers will always be in the playing squad - I think he would be keener to be involved as player- coach?
