Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Rumours Etc part 2.....2024/25

Transfer news
Charlie Sayers released by Partick Thistle by mutual consent. I know he was one that left just as he broke into the squad very early in Kevs tenure (probably to pay a few bills as was still in Martins control). Could he do a job on the left.

I know we shouldn't just look at ex players but feel that he left due to financial constraints (we needed the cash) rather than he was crap
He's what we need as well. A proper LWB too. Could be a good fit

Released with over 2 1/2 years left on his contract, I would think he has something lined up. In his short spell in our 1st team he looked great - but that might be because the rest of that team included the likes of Coulson, Murphy, Kargbo, Ferguson, etc🙂

I remember him having some real potential. I like the idea

That's an avenue that we don't exploit, and should do. It would be nice to get a bit of pace in the forward line, even if only for a few months.
But we had that with Kanu last season and Pepple this season. Both were recalled by their respective clubs within weeks. A guaranteed long-term loan is fine but losing Pepple in particular has been another kick in the teeth this season.

I did say even if it's only for a few months. Although Pepple's stay was short, the impact on the rest of the team, the goals, the pace and power he displayed, had a massive effect. And sometimes, a big club won't cut short the stay. That's the gamble.

I think this is a great shout.

Golding - was already here
Goodliffe - brought in due to injury to Crowther (there is a chance he may have been a target)
Hopper - brought in due to Bim leaving
Parillon and Hayes are not affected by the window and Hayes only likely due to injury to Collin

My point being in October / November we were told we needed to wait for the transfer window to open to bring targets in. I was expecting to see a bit more movement to be honest
be careful about believing what you read on the internet. who told you?

2 things we have learned is that Kev does not like doing much loan business ( prefers permanent signings- which I get ) and secondly prefers a small squad

2 things that appear to significantly help with promotion.

1. Decent number of loan signings, explored especially those well trained , ready made , 21 year olds from Prem or Championship. Not much point in saying a number of loans limits opportunities for our own when we dont have an academy of a B team

2. A squad of 24 plus

If Charlie sayers hasn't got anything lined up get him down here, I'd also be on the phone to Dennis if he hasn't got anything lined up the same! Even to an end of season deal
Unfortunately, I would imagine both have deals lined up higher up the pyramid. Purely guesswork, but working on the basis that they would not rip up relatively lengthy contracts in the hope that they would get signed elsewhere.

Tranmere used 50 players in one season......The season they went out of the EFL.

We need to improve our 11 on the pitch. Not sign players 25-34 so they can be paid to sit in the East Blues on Match day.

Surely not that old desperate argument again
Why dont you mention Bury and Scunthorpe for a change

Hope this helps Riggers with the squad size thing and the balance of probabilities regarding success

1. Barnet top squad 28
2 York City 2nd squad 24
3. FGR 3rd squad 24
4. Gateshead 4th squad 28
5. Oldham 5th squad 29
6. Halifax 6th squad 23
7. Rochdale squad 23
8 Altrincham squad 29

If it helps average squad size of top 8 teams is 27 !!

Does it assist or hinder I wonder?

Guess what . TOP 5 teams use of loan system

Loanees

Barnet 8
York City 12
FGR 4
Gateshead 10
Oldham 12

SO I make that 46 Loanees between the top 5 ! an average of just over 9 each

Still obviously none of this larger squad stuff and skilful use of lot of loanees works does it?

And besides we can always throw in a Tranmere ? to prove just how wrong all these mugs above are?

is that loans all season or those currently at the club? off the top of my head we've had Harness, Jeacock, Moncur, Foran, Golding, Goodliffe, Pepple, which is more than FGR and only 2 fewer than your average. Same story as our permanent signings though in terms of impact - only Pepple (and arguably Golding) has been a clear success story.

not saying loans can't be a part of the answer but it needs to be the right profile - we definitely could have used a Lopata or a Harrison Neal this season!

I'll save Bury and Scunthorpe for when you bore everyone with the same stuck record about "look at everyone else" and how easy it is to sign 15 players in week.

Barnet, FGR, York, Oldham etc are paying higher wages than us. So any 10 year old would know they are likely to have more quantity and more quality.

Loved him when he was here, but genuinely forgot how good he was.

Tell me he’s not exactly what we need at the moment. Pace, power, skill, flair, work rate, movement, passing etc. He’d make the team play whether they wanted to or not.
Blimey forgot how good Dennis was, he is the sort of striker we need, proper fox in box striker. But his all round game is good. Would enquire about getting him if he hasn’t got anything lined up.
