I was about to post the same thing. Ridiculous take. John Still is well respected in the lower leagues for knowing non league football inside out. I’d put money on him being aware of him and just coz we didn’t sign Kone doesn’t mean he wasn’t on the radar.

I was about to post the same thing. Ridiculous take. John Still is well respected in the lower leagues for knowing non league football inside out. I’d put money on him being aware of him and just coz we didn’t sign Kone doesn’t mean he wasn’t on the radar.

Many might disagree but we are very lucky to have John still with all his lower & non league contacts & knowledge involved with Southend United

He was 100% on our radar, but how do we compete with a league one Wycombe?

We certainly wouldn’t be getting £7m if he’d signed for us and done just as well.

Not sure why Danny Waldron has been brought into this, it’s not like we had the choice of two and picked Waldron instead.

We were aware of Kone but had no chance with the other clubs interest. Pearce had agreed terms with us. Two completely different cases.

If we didn't snap up Freddy Eastwood quickly enough he would've attracted interest from clubs higher up the pyramid who we couldn't compete with. Kone was banging in goals for seasons before Wycombe came sniffing.

I know for every one Kone there's 20 duds so I'm not blaming anyone here FWIW I was more saying it's genuinely a shame that we missed one.

My understanding is he was on the radar for loads of clubs including some at higher levels than Wycombe but couldn't sign for anyone for a long time due to his immigration status and it was Wycombe that essentially waited for him to get that sorted out.

Of course, wouldn't expect you to. However there has been lots of times on here where Still has been questioned, and Kone is the most successful 'non league gem' from our patch since he has been here. Would have been a good example to defend the recruitment.
