Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Rumours Etc part 2.....2024/25

Transfer news
2:28pm

Will be covering a wide range of topics but I'll start off with a few transfer updates. Story to follow a bit later but I'll post a few snippets now.

>Tom Hopper is edging closer to joining. Expect that one to happen as it stands.

>Blues are in for a midfielder but are not the only club chasing him.

>The Shrimpers are also in talks with a third target. There's a lot going on!

>Expect Jack Wood to head back out on loan.

I think you'll find that the closer it gets to the EFL transfer window we may well get some incoming once they have realised they are not going to get any other offers etc

Being National League and not loaded like Forest Green or York we will be the back of the queue when it comes to players coming here. Could be as part of a chain whereby the club we are purchasing from won't release until they have players lined up and signed etc

Reasoned thought, how concerning.

How are things progressing on the transfer front?

Maher: "It's good. We've got irons in the fire and hopefully one or two things aren't too far away.

"We've highlighted what we want and what we think we need.

"If we can get them then I think it will put us in a strong position.

"It's not always easy to get them over the line but hopefully we'll be able to do that."

I think we could do with a new Blacksmith.

I’m surprised it’s as many as two. Who else attends these and where can we see them report the transfer snippets? Chris Phillips for the Echo, someone for the club website and maybe occasionally BBC Essex?

I only ever see stuff on the Echo and then a couple of days later the official site.

It’s not that surprising.

We didn’t use to get our business done (especially for forwards) in L1 or L2 until late in the window because we were towards the back of the hierarchy then.

E.g.

L1
Theo Robinson 31st Jan 2017
Freddie Lapado 31st Jan 2018

Lee Bradbury 31st Jan 2006

Stephen McLaughlin 27th August 2015
Harry Kyprianou 1st Sept 2015
Luke O’Neill 1st sept 2015

L2
Nathan Ferguson 29th Jan 2020
Jacob Mellis 1st Feb 2020

Overpaying can let you queue jump but that’ll come back and bite you if you have limited funds.

Does anyone know who the third target is

No idea but if I’m looking for bargains I’d be looking at the best player for each of Chesham, Farnborough, Chelmsford, Slough, Chippenham, Hemel and Salisbury as they’re stuck in midtable purgatory more than 10 points away from the playoffs and more than 10 points from relegation and out of the Cup. If they’re a still ascending player with EFL potential then I’d see if their club would like a nominal fee and some add ons rather than lose them for free in the summer.

That seems to be what we’re doing with Chambers-Parillon.

They’d have to adjust to full-time football but they’d only be moving up one division which seems very doable. That’s the level we got Scott-Morris, Morton, Cardwell, Kensdale, Husin etc from.

We can look for players further up the table as well but we may need to pay a bit more for players whose sides still have play-off hopes.

Just hope we work out sensible deal with hopper contract length and obvs price wise .. ie a deal until end of season wise with option if does well .. will be interesting how he does in this league either way ..
