Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Rumours Etc part 2.....2024/25

Transfer news
Just hope we work out sensible deal with hopper contract length and obvs price wise .. ie a deal until end of season wise with option if does well .. will be interesting how he does in this league either way ..
Zero chance of 6 months deal with option- would hope/expect 18 months with option but we shall see.

He already has 6 months of contract at way more than we could afford so unless Col U subsidising that…

I’m surprised it’s as many as two. Who else attends these and where can we see them report the transfer snippets? Chris Phillips for the Echo, someone for the club website and maybe occasionally BBC Essex?

I only ever see stuff on the Echo and then a couple of days later the official site.

It’s not that surprising.

We didn’t use to get our business done (especially for forwards) in L1 or L2 until late in the window because we were towards the back of the hierarchy then.

E.g.

L1
Theo Robinson 31st Jan 2017
Freddie Lapado 31st Jan 2018

Lee Bradbury 31st Jan 2006

Stephen McLaughlin 27th August 2015
Harry Kyprianou 1st Sept 2015
Luke O’Neill 1st sept 2015

L2
Nathan Ferguson 29th Jan 2020
Jacob Mellis 1st Feb 2020

Overpaying can let you queue jump but that’ll come back and bite you if you have limited funds.
Going by that list it didn’t help us waiting either 😂

On a serious note what about Callum McFadzean. Would be a great player - experience can play left back or left wing back, takes on players and is a free agent at the moment in a position we really need to strengthen. Would rather use the hopper wages on this personally

If hopper is wanting a longer contract than we want to offer then surely a loan until the end of the season to see how he does would be the most sensible thing for us as a club

For us a club yes...but not for Hopper if he's looking for security
We shouldn’t be bent over a barrel. If he wants to come we can only offer what we think is fair. If he don’t like it he can stay at Col U until the summer. Problem is in the summer there could be some better free agents and we already have a striker tied up on a decent whack unnecessarily (especially if he doesn’t perform)

I imagine we are loaning for rest of the season, then he doesn't lose any money from current decent contract. Then we will sign for a year permanently after that.
Probably jostling with col ewe about how much salary we pay etc etc. I could be wrong of course.

Good luck with a chant for that one!

Trying to add to his squad - Southend United boss Kevin Maher (Image: Lucy Copsey)

By Chris Phillips. Chief sports reporter.

SOUTHEND United are in talks with a trio of transfer targets.

Striker Tom Hopper is close to completing his switch to the Shrimpers who have also tabled an offer for a National League South midfielder plus a third target who is currently on the books of a National League club.

And Blues boss Kevin Maher, whose side host AFC Fylde tonight, is hopeful deals can be done.

He said: “It’s good. We’ve got irons in the fire and hopefully one or two things aren’t too far away.

“We’ve highlighted what we want and what we think we need.

“If we can get them then I think it will put us in a strong position.

“It’s not always easy to get them over the line but hopefully we’ll be able to do that.”

Blues face competition to bring in the midfielder but could have Hopper available for this evening’s encounter.

Are we trying to sign Nick Hayes?
