Transfer News, Gossip & Speculation Transfer Rumours Etc part 2.....2024/25

Transfer news
The thing is he can only score goals if others provide the chances for him, he might take a goal bonus as another incentive but he won’t if he can match his basic salary elsewhere, if he got injured the goal bonus would be £0!
Well surely is has to be a two paid street?.

If he is injured then we also lose out because we are paying a decent salary to someone who is not playing.

Footballers and their wretch agents seem to think that they are exempt from the real working world which is a big reason why some clubs get into debt (and of course other things),

A very valid comment again from you which makes sense, however, I hope COSU are willing to further subsidise next seasons budget as based on the poor performances and tactics this season I would be absolutely amazed if Season Ticket renewals are anywhere near this seasons which were buoyed by a wave of euphoria and optimism.

Sadly a well used phrase in football is that you're as good as your last game - well I know what that makes us sadly
Maybe, but we do have a competitive budget (I don't know where in the standings of budgets we place, but I'm confident it's top 7), and perhaps it just needs to be used better - not surprising, considering some calculated risks has to be taken on some signings due to the late takeover/embargo.

I don't think this season is being written off, and we can still make a go of the playoffs, but we stand a better chance of more widespread changes/rebalanced the squad/making better use of the budget that we do have in the summer, whatever division we're in.

So you are telling me a striker, who is paid to Score goals wouldn't accept a bonus on top of his wages to do what he is paid for which would mean a nice few quid if he does his job well?.

It is no different from sales people in the real world who are paid a bonus for doing what they are paid to do which is "sell".
At a club where according to Paul Clark if you got the same service in a restaurant you would walk out? Nope.

Honestly, some of you lot are slow learners! You should all know by now that any business we may have done in the transfer market won’t be announced until 13:30 on a Saturday at least - but more likely even closer to the 2pm matchday squad announcement.

We may (or may not) be signing a player or two, but if we do then we know by now there’s still a bit of a wait to find out. Let’s not get panties too tied up in bunches while we wait, eh?

Yes but it sounds like Tom/his agent don’t think it is a decent salary so he might as well go elsewhere or stay with us to bide his time. I agree about some of the agents, sadly football went down the pan financially a long time ago.

I didn't realise you meant on top of a base salary, but my point is still kind of the same.

It's easy for us to sit here and say "he should back himself, so incentives won't be a problem", but in reality, it would be very risky for anybody to take a deal like that which reduces the base salary. I know footballers have to do it as they get older if they want to keep playing, but who can blame them for clinging onto a certain base salary for as long as they can?

We don`t need to breaking the bank on another striker, when we need to create for the strikers we have. A creative CM is what we should be focusing on. I wonder what stage we are at with Hopper, if another EFL club are interested and will pay what him and his agent want, then move on and look at other targets.

Employees get paid sick pay.

Don't forget, last time TH played for us he had a bad long term injury. I guess that wouldn't be a risk he'd be prepared to take.

I’m as patient as a Springer Spaniel waiting to get its food bowl 🍲 😂

The best thing which could happen to reset the dial is to remove the option for loaning a player to another club to develop them for free

My guess is Tom probably wants a 2 and a half year deal, that would see him through to 33 and then he can go from there with his decision. There are plenty of strikers doing well at 34/35 in the EFL currently so he still has time on his side, he is a very fit and strong lad, who will give it all for the club.
You're starting to sound like you're his agent !
