Transfer Embargo

Not entirely sure how true this is... Bournemouth have been under a transfer embargo since the beginning of the season and, at one point, were down to 12 professionals. They were even playing Lee Bradbury at right back and were blocked from taking a particular youth with them as he hadn't completed his school coursework. They attempted to bring a few loanee's in to cover the gaps caused by injuries, but the Football League blocked every attempt at doing so.

Can't see why we'd be given any different treatment.

But "Uncle" Ron told us that the matter was closed :O

This all sounds entirely plausible to me and would explain why we haven't had more interviews with Tilly on the OS about how he's pursuing loads of loan targets to fill in the gaps in our squad that is "down to the bare bones".

Talking of the OS, isn't it about time we saw that "fuller statement" that was supposed to be appearing last week? Or is that going to go down in history in the same way as the mythical warchest that may or may not have been promised?

The ''fuller statement'' will be appearing on the OS around the same time Michael Jackson takes to the stage at the O2 Arena . . .

The silence about bringing in new loanees is almost as great as the urgence with which we need them. I'm sure that I heard somewhere that Tilly had a number of players in view.......will be interesting to hear his MKD pre-match interview. If he comes up with the stoic, "We'll have to do with what we've got"..........we can assume that we still have a problem. Let's look on the positive side, whilst I'm writing this the club are probably sending out a texto, announcing a new arrival..........or will do so in the next 48 hours.

Not sure if posted somewhere else but did we sign Morrison as an emergency goalkeeper?? Hence Joyce not being able to be on the bench on Saturday! Is this possible? Does it have to be a goalkeeper as this seems to be a position where emergency loans can be made what ever the circumstances

2 fit defenders must count as an emergency!

after the gills games tilly said he would try and get a few players in, only 1 so far when we all know we need more. not blaming tilly at all but why have not got more in.

Because we are still under embargo (IMO)

I can't believe the level of cynisism on here. Maybe there's a plausible reason like we're trying to make sure we get the right people in who are better than what we've got, or the fax machine was broken or ran out of paper? Come on. Just have some faith. We've been told it's all been sorted, so no doubt it has been.

You can't believe the level of cynicism ? What, you were expecting more ?

Hang on ... there is more; this post.

Elstree

maybe I missed it, but has the club actually made a statement saying that the embargo has been lifted ?

Why would the embargo not have been lifted 10 days after the HMRC debt was paid? How long does it take to be lifted once the players have all been paid? Seriously, I don't know the rules. Do they say that the embargo has to stay for a period of time or does it get lifted as soon as the players have been paid? Can Mick or anyone enlighten us as to what the rules say?

If we're talking about what the club has said, did the now infamous official club statement say that it was the end of the matter? What should we have taken that to mean? That the HMRC debt had been paid but we couldn't get the embargo lifted? That would be reassuring, and I think we could then be happy that that really was the end of the matter - never mind about the embargo.

Or maybe the embargo has been lifted. Maybe Tilly hasn't identified any players we need or he's confident that we've got enough cover in the squad to get promoted this season. After all, we apparently need to be in the Championship with bigger gates than the poor 8,000 ones we're currently achieving for the club to have any hope of surviving long-term (as opposed to losing money like £2.4m each year) - so I'm sure the club is still hoping to achieve promotion this year so that we can balance the books. Tilly is probably very happy with the squad he's got and confident of achieving promotion with it.

OK, UWS, I agree. The club hasn't made a clear statement. So maybe we could have a clear and proper statement from the club telling us exactly what's going on at the moment? If not, why not?

Would the embargo remain if the PFA were helping pay the players' wages ?

Did the club say that it didn't want the Shrimpers Trust to collect more money from the fans and it didn't need that money? My understanding was that the Trust were prepared to offer to pay players' wages out of their funds if necessary? Was that right? If so, then surely the club would have taken the Trust up on that offer so that the club would be able to lift the embargo and bring some more players in, rather than allow an embargo to continue?

It was said by the Chairman of the Trust at the Trust AGM that there wouldn't be enough money in the kitty to pay the players' wages long-term and to try and help make mortgage payments was a bit of a legal mine-field so the idea was pretty much a non-starter.
A Trust committee member may be able to expand on my post.

Long term - you must be right. But what about short-term if indeed the club's position is just a short-term cash flow issue? Has the club had any dialogue with the Trust to see how they could work together on this? If not, why not? Has it not been necessary? Is everything in hand?

A full and clear club statement would certainly be useful.

Unless of course our illustrious chairman doesn't want any embargo lifted, if we did bring in new players then the wage bill may start to rise again, more money to find. Why not just let Tilly & Brush get on with it and use what they have. Sorry if that sounds ultr-negative but i am afraid the longer the board silence goes on the more convinced i am that this chairman and this board don't give a damn about the supporters and think even less of SUFC. UTB.

Waited with interest to hear Tilly's pre-MKD interview. Was asked about the loan window closing and whether we were still looking to bring someone in. I'm not quoting his reply exactly but it was something like, "Yes, were still looking to bring players in but for whatever reason it hasn't happened. That's as much as I can say for the moment on that one."
Gave me the impression that he would like to say more but has been told not to.
I really am starting to believe that we deserve some kind of explanation about exactly what is going on. I could even live with the information that money is so tight that we are going to have to make do with this size of squad until, at least, the end of the season. The players appear to know how bad things are and Tilly certainly does, how long can us, the supporters, be left in the dark?
