Transfer Embargo, Winding Up Petition & Staff Salary Issues

Just been watching a documentary on Reynolds and the fall of Darlington. Must admit part of that sounded a bit like RM and whats been happening here over the years. Gosh im so happy we have SVC, TL and Kev and co, and JS and his team of scouts, without them i think we may have gone the same way .

Wages are being paid, albeit some, not all are late and some people have agreed to defer wages.

I suspect all monies coming in is going out on the general running of the club, it's just that income isn't enough - like it hasn't been for decades and like it isn't for the vast majority of clubs
I suspect that the debt owed is historic and our current income meets our current outgoings.

I've said before, being relegated into a league that stopped relegation during Covid has put us at a disadvantage financially.

Ultimately 2 back to back relegations has hurt us far more than being relegated a season later during a normal season

Oooops ! Apologies the consultancy fee for 2019 accounts was only £300,000!
I wonder how many other National league club chairman are taking a cool £300,000 per year?
Also where is the DD from the Shrimpers Trust?
In 2019 we were a L1 club, it's not comparable to where we are now

anyone making any progress on the lifeboat ?

Not much. As bad luck would have it, we struck the burg in Southend council waters. We were all waiting for the SS Sainsbury to recuse us but they turned around when we were listing 15 degrees.

Southend Council have delayed their 'All boats away' meeting util tomorrow, as Doris has her hair done on Saturdays. So its now looking increasingly like every man for himself.

There are few blokes standing around constantly moaning and expecting others to sort it out. I've got my eye on them as no doubt they are the sort who would shove the women and children out of the way when it comes to it.

One more thing the queues for life belts are ridiculous. Understaffed and under paid. Why haven't they got an online system or even a Wheres my life belt app.....Whole ships an absolute joke.

Wasps ruby club recently went into administration, with 167 jobs being lost. 3 weeks before that a ‘lifeboat’ offer of £60m was put to the board. It was a popular package, but unanimity was required, and the only person not to vote in favour of the proposal (he abstained) was owner Derek Richardson.
I wonder if we will ever face the same scenario?

everyone is hoping the lifeboat won't be needed

and no-one wants to captain the lifeboat - surely a thankless task..

but at some point the passengers will have to wake up and go to the muster stations

or drown ;-)

If you're a member of the Trust, why do you continually moan on here. Why not use your membership and speak to those concerned, rather than post on here.
312 messages In 13 years …yer it’s continuous

To put this to bed maybe someone could post the trust manifesto which would then add clarity in what you do pledge don’t do etc … might make the finger pointing go away , also may allow people to seek evidence that pledges are being kept to ( just an idea )

Nobody is being ‘sledged’.
We are all very grateful to the football department.

The club is made of of many more than that too. All of whom contribute and without them we wouldn’t be in any league.

All a bit animal farm

FYI Ron using Martin Dawn PLC and Delancey Estates, together forming South Eastern Leisure (SEL), took control of Southend United in November 1998, buying the club and its centrally located Roots Hall ground for £4m from then chairman Vic Jobson.

Thats 24 years ago. We overreached ourselves aiming to stay in the Championship, and then again trying to get back into it (6th and 8th placed finishes the following seasons). Along came the financial crash of 2008, a global pandemic in 2020 and the rest as they say is history.

We are truth be known still playing catch up from that period.
I think Mr Jobson's son has something to say on how much money actually changed hands.
Did I not read something in the Echo recently suggesting the full amount was never paid and is still owing.

Any 'Martin Out' protests are absolutely pointless, and an unwelcome distraction for the playing staff and players. He's not going anywhere. His pot of gold has never been so near. We just have to put up with this crap until all the development is done, and he retires to enjoy his riches.
…..and then what ??? Have Ron junior take over to maintain the appalling toxic dynasty that has all but destroyed us as a reputable club. ??

This club deserves so much better than a never ending succession of wide boys And chancers.

Did he mean the debts his dad run up where not fully paid?

Yeah I know that, but the issues were suffering now began around 2008 or 2009. Players and staff not being paid on time was a constant theme throughout 2009/10 and the latter part of 08/09. And I'm sure Steve Tilson told me as long ago as 2008 that Ron had defaulted on loan fees to parent clubs of some of our loan players. So maybe make that 14 years that this has been happening, and 14 years of reputational destruction in the game for our club. No other club comes close, so no, it's not "the same for everyone else".
We struggled during the financial crash of 08/09 and unfortunately there's another financial crash on its way. It has to be noted that we've learned nothing about living within our means in the period in between - we were running the 5th highest wage bill in league 1 allegedly, which shows ambition but also financial recklessness.

Ron is now trying to arrange bridging finance in a market where borrowing money costs far more than it did 12 months ago - that's what concerns me. We need to hope he manages this - he's clearly trying to insulate the first team from the financial mess in the hope that results keep coming. But we need to remember he's not failing to pay staff / youth team for a laugh - he's not paying them because he doesn't have the money. Maybe offloading a player in January might help us in the short term if there's anyone who will give us money for one?
