Top five Blues goals ever.

Johnny Cornwall scored a screamer in an otherwise dismal 3-1 defeat at Cambridge, 92/93 I think it was!

That would get my vote

Along with Peter Taylor Vs Brentford in the early 70's

Eastwood away at Bristol

Mike Marsh vs Ipswich

Ronnie Whelan , Bristol City again

1. Freddy Eastwood, v. Lincoln - Play-off final, 2005. They really don't get any better than this. I was blinded by pure joy for about 10 seconds - I couldn't actually see anything... I just felt... "Yes!"

2. Jonny Hunt, v. Palace (h), 1993 - I don't know why, but it was so sweet when we scored that I almost fainted.

3. Mark Gower, v. Bristol Rovers (a), 2005 (LDV). One of those goals which is so good, so sweetly hit, that you want to laugh, cry, scream, run around like a headless chicken and jump like a five year old all at the same time.

4. Tes Bramble, v. Luton (h), 2001 (FA Cup). An overhead kick, with two minutes to go, to send the cheating Hatters out of the cup... and with that, I was over an ex-girlfriend in one fell swoop.

5. Tes Bramble, v. Colchester (a), 2004 (LDV). Come on, has there been a more amusing goal ever scored by a Southend player? Brilliant.

Happy days.

:D

There's still a MtS sized space in TIG that needs filling.....

;)

1. Freddy Eastwood v Man U
2. Freddy Eastwood v Man U
3. Freddy Eastwood v Man U
4. Freddy Eastwood v Man U
5. Freddy Eastwood v Man U

Macca's goal at Preston is my personal favourite, just so unexpected and brilliant technique.

As a team goal, Freddy's first goal for us against Swansea, 7.7 seconds about 6/7 touches of the ball, no Swansea player near it. An almost perfect goal.

And crossed at the perfect height as well, Fred didn't even have to jump to head it home.

Number one would have been Fred's Man Utd goal were it not for One depriving me of it with their world class service. Still, celebrating outside the Railway on my way to the ground was good fun.

I've had a think and In no particular order:

1. Steve Hammell v Norwich City. Southend battle back from 3-1 down to draw the match with his superb free-kick that caused some of the biggest celebrations I remember seeing at RH.

2. Dave McSweeney v Carlisle. For someone so limited as a player, this is probably the most surprising thing I've ever seen a footballer do. Details are a bit blurry but Dave roamed infield from left back and banged it in to the North stand net.

3. Kevin Maher v QPR. I actually thought our central midfield couldn't shoot last season and suddenly they both pop up with some belters. I didn't see the Preston ones live so I'm going for the non-freekick in our demolition of QPR.

4. God v Col U. Bit late to the match but as I walk in, Tes powers infield and blasts the ball in to the Col U net. He scored better (both with us and after) but not at Layer Road :D

5. Leo Roget v Torquay (FA Cup). Ok, it wasn't the sweetest or most skilful strike but you have to love the audacity of a defender pinging a quick free-kick past Southall (?) to win an FA Cup replay in extra time!

Going on (a) only goals that I have seen 'live', (b) quality of strike rather than occasion and (c) in no particular order:

*Freddy Eastwood vs Hartlepool, 25/03/06. Freddy somehow scores from the just outside the touchline with keeper stranded

*Freddy Eastwood vs Barnsley, 17/04/06. A beautiful shot from outside the box that keeper never saw coming

*Nathan Jones vs Cheltenham, 06/05/00. As mentioned by DtS at the top of the thread, an astonishing mazy run from the half way line. What a way for Jones to finish his time at Roots Hall

*Lewis Hunt vs Brighton, 19/09/06. A bit of a surprise call perhaps, but this was a beautiful volley and from a very unexpected source

*Mark Gower vs Bristol Rovers, 15/02/05. I was right behind Gower when he took the shot and it was going in from the minute he left his boot. Sublime.

does anyone remember the david lee goal against brighton @ roots hall
think it was the 00-01 season ?
im sure ran from the half way line beating a few defenders, before curling it into the postage stamp

Ricky Otto away at swindon (93/94)... run from inside own half, jig around a few swindon players and then slotted in the net!

can i add andy sussex v portsmouth volley into the top corner from 30 yards sorry can't remember the year though

Anton Otulakowski v. Reading. A genuine 40 yarder. What ever possessed the man to shoot from that range?

Ian Benjamin v. Cambridge in the 1-1 draw. Not spectacular but, as a workmate of mine would describe it, a "pretty" goal. He's a bit strange.

This is tough, but here we go:

1) Mark Gower - Brizzle away in the LDV

2) Leon Constantine - In the cup in Tilly's 1st week in charge, lobbed the keeper from about 35 yards to complete the rout!!

3) Steven Hammell - Norwich free kick, aweome

4) Lewis Hunt - against Brighton, I was surprised he made contact at all!! What a goal!!

5) Freddy Eastwood - Man U - Just could not leave it out

I have tried to only pick 1 gower goal, and 1 eastwood goal, could prob make a very good 5 using only 1 of them.

Also deserving of a mention:

Macca at Preston
Maher 1st v QPR
Freddy v Southampton

theres been so many screamers hasent there over the years, just a few more from the achieves

Paul Byrne V Norwich
Mike Marsh v Ipswich
Johnie Nielson v Bolton
David Crown v Wigan

Good choices there, Cockles. I'd just been to get a cup of tea in the West Bank when Byrne hit that long range screamer. Better still, I'd travelled down in a minibus from Suffolk with a bunch of Tractor boys when Marsh hit that winner. Both of those goals will be etched on my brain until the day I die.

That goal looked special at the time but on the replay you could see it was a clear mis-hit. Eastwood's goal seconds later was better. Dropped the shoulder, beat two men and rifled it into the corner from about 20 yards with one of the most powerful shots I've ever seen.
