SUFC: The Future Tom Lawrence update on ground and facilities

A good cup run is definitely needed.

The biggest thing is turning Roots Hall into a money making operation 365 days a year, not just our 23 home matches.

Things like a gym open to the public, conference spaces, the ability for people to “hot desk” at Roots Hall, hosting events, concerts, England youth matches, a bar/restaurant that is open at other times than just match days, the fan zone, more corporate hospitality etc.
And the hiring out of the training pitches. Tom said those were the 2 big potential game changers - East Stand redevelopment and hiring out the training pitches

Thanks for that - it all makes sense.

I don't know the economics around pitch hiring but it would seem to be a "good little earner" based on the (almost unbelievable) figures regarding Harrogate Town and their plastic pitch. (Sadly I can't remember them now).

They had to replace their pitch when they were promoted (and then went on to beat us 4-0 in their first league game - that still hurts).

Training pitches are around £100 per quarter per hour. So £400 an hour and assume something like 4 evenings of 3 hours + maybe another 5 for weekend day games. That’s around £6k a week… or 2 really good players at our level.

Just did a bit more research. I think I’ve almost doubled the rental price so this is more like £3-4k a week. Do we have 2 though?

Either way - you can see why cosu are looking to tap into these income streams as a priority. It will help with the funding.
