Zone multi-cultural.........Southend United rather less multi-national than we were. We've got predominately British players with additional Irish, French, Morocan and USA flavours..............for the moment. When was the last American we had playing for us? Didn't we have one in our Championship period?

Recent signing Jemal Johnson is of course American!...

Before that I would say someone like Mike Lapper?

Just been told midfielder Jake Thomson may figure as a trialist for Blues in friendlies at Dartford and Wakering this week.

Who else stood out for you Smiffy?

Other than Thomson, I would say (Dont know their names) the striker/midfielder from the park side, plus two centre halfs and Joe Holt on the wing. Perhaps the Sanchez Watt look a like who played right wing in the 2nd game as well.

Seems that it's Thomson's attitude and work rate that are the things that are holding him back and not his ability!

This about Jake Thomson from a friend who is an Exeter fan

Jake didn't play for us much at all, although we don't tend to play with wingers (mainly attacking fullbacks) so he didn't get much of a look in - not necessarily his fault. He's quick and looks quite skilful but always looked very nervous and got hustled off the ball easily. Probably a confidence thing due to lack of matches. Mind you, Barry Corr was not good for us - got sent off three times in debut season, missed 12 matches through suspension and didn't really score that much so people obviously just suit different clubs!

I listen to talksport most days and the H & J show have been following Ricketts over the past year. He was on the show a 2 weeks or so ago and said that he was looking for a club back in England. He only finished his season about four weeks ago and therefore is match fit and raring to go. said that money wasnt an issue as that doesnt motivate him, just needs to find a new club to reignite his career. Didnt feel he was ready for the Prem league as yet, but said that a number of clubs in league 2 were interested and one had offered him a trial. I think he could be an excellant signing and would once again be a fantastic addition to our squad, especially in league two.

I have to say the opinion of myself and those around me yesterday, was that he did not look fit enough at all.

It all depends on the wage demands of the players trialling with us. If the club is sold to the ex-pros as a steeping stone back to a career at bigger clubs and, as such, our wages bill ( with the wage-capping allowed) won't allow big wages and hopefully the less greedy may be tempted.
