Ok having just seen the clip on YouTube from the Col U fans perspective it only backs up the fact that this guy deserves a lifetime ban from ALL football, nothing less.

I've gone from been astonished at the game to now being incensed that this kind of thing can actually happen inside a modern day football stadium. Irrespective of both sets of fans given it the verbal throughout the game - violence in any form is not acceptable - not least of all when we're trying to encourage families to regularly attend matches.

Finally I actually go to Roots Hall to watch the game, can I suggest that if you're not there for this purpose too that you get the f*** out of our club. Idiotic fans are not welcome.

Perhaps all the col ewe fans who were punching the stewards and Bolger need to man up and take what should be coming to them too

I don't condone any violence but just want to say that those at front were the ones that got punched. The ones at the front were the ones giving it large to the Southend fans. Does that then mean one of the friends cousins was one of those giving it large? Both sets of fans are as bad as each other, no goading and taunting would usually mean no violence

Exactly this. Everyone in that front corner was inciting/encouraging/wanting violence. They got it. Meh

I've never found SportBible too bad, in truth.

Sure, there's some unsavoury stuff from time to time, but it's well balanced, like the video of the little Everton lad with cerebal palsy.

I think that was just Roberto Martinez's dance moves.

Its the idiotic stewards at the club that let him get that far. And not only that, they let him walk back!!

This is true however this guy voluntarily assaulted a number of Col U fans - this is NOT the fault of the stewards - why should they throw their bodies in the way, is it their job to receive punches? As far as I'm aware they are not bouncers? I agree with previous comments that the police should have been in the stadium by this point though.

He may well think that he has got away this - he hasn't. He has probably been filmed by the police for evidence and as already said, the incident (and his face) has gone global. Employers don't like this sort of thing and he may find himself out of work Monday morning as well as banned and with a criminal record. But of course - "They started it first" pathetic.

Absolutely this. Stewards are there for crowd safety - not to get punched by some dick head.

The fact they were trying to hold back a hundred Col Ewe fans didn't help. Missing him was a mistake, but they were hardly just sitting around twiddling their thumbs.

Indeed, there were idiots on both sides, and hopefully both will be punished.

We beat our rivals 3-0, as we strengthen our promotion campaign and leave them bottom of the table, and I come on here to find a five-page thread full of people moaning and bickering.

I prefer to think it shows the strengh of the disgust felt by decent football fans whoever they support.

Blame the people who created a disgraceful incident for it, not the people who condemn it afterwards.

How dare people complain about people attacking other people at a football match

if it was you or one of your family getting beat up, you would be moaning, you are fast becoming a complete tool poster nowadays, surprised you didn't blame OBL

Dont read a topic if you think it's moaning, when 99 % percent are horrified and realise the serious problem it can have on our away games with supporters who go to enjoy the game, I'm proud we are friendly club, however it's good name is being tarnished by a few morons

Just for a bit of balance... This wasn't innocents getting hurt, this was people who threw coins at us, threw punches at our stewards & even threw punches at our player. F*** em. Blame whoever you want, but those involved weren't shrinking violets, they were all like-minded.

Col u fans were looking for trouble from the start.
They beat our stewards threw coins and then decided to punch one of our players.

They weren't saints and can't really complain that at getting a response. At most games that behaviour would have seen them nicked or at least ejected. Nothing happened so sonedecided to try and take the law into there own hands.

It doesn't make it right, but I'm just saying it was very much provoked.

I was actually stood right next to the guy that we are talking about and he is a regular.

Colchester fans were a disgrace to their team. I'm not, in anyway shape or form, condoning the 1 or 2 of our fans that went on the pitch, but at least we didn't punch any stewards, or at least, not from what I could see. The point is that there were not enough stewards for a derby game.

Indeed, it was both sides, both sides were in the wrong.

They were already causing problems and our supporters were wrong to react however provoked they may have been.

Not for much longer Id imagine, cant see him getting away with that.

My mate is security at the ground and he DID get punched in the head by a Southend fan. "Fans" involved from both sides are all a disgrace and should be banned.

Then they can all f*** off away from Southend United and football in general for good. I'm with Blueronron on this, our club did have a good rep - being dragged down now and I for one won't let it go unchallenged.
