This has the feel of a 'Deegan' thread. It would not surprise me if it has more posts that the post match thread, but I will be very disappointed if it does run and run. If you were there you will have seen what happened. Some police were in the stadium but not where the flash point was until it was nearly over. A small minority of Col Ewe fans were out of order and looking for grief all the time, but there is no justification for making it worse by joining in the punching. And no one should tell me I'm not entitled to a view because I was further down the stand.

I wasnt surprised Police werent there, unlike Millwall Col U arent exactly renowned for trouble making. Maybe one or two with the stewards would have stopped them trying to rush the Southend fans though. Pushing a steward is one thing, pushing a copper another.

Its certainly a bit rich of Col U fans to complain after the way they were behaving already. Of course letting one of our fans get to theirs was poor, but if they weren't preoccupied trying to hold back Col U fans trying to fight through them maybe they would have stopped him.

Not sure if you were there, so apologies if this comes across as patronising, but more Southend fans got over the barriers than Col U fans and if it wasn't for the players acting as stewards the whole situation could have been worse with a full blown pitch invasion (by Southend fans).

2 of my sons friends (who we took to the ground and despite them supporting their local team are quite normal ) were in the Col U end and one of the friends had a cousin who had travelled down by train. The cousin was unfortunately one of those punched and the ring from the guy has cut his head open. We took him back to Colchester and he is currently at the NHS Walk in centre having his head glued.

So unfortunately despite some of the 'glorifying' tweets i have seen, I believe rather that this damages our name and as someone says there will be consequences which i doubt that the culprit(s) will financially bear.

I feel sympathy for the stewards. They were getting shoved and punched by the Colu contigent in the corner and threw in extra numbers, leaving gaps in front of x block. Not defending the Southend idiots but i am, the stewards, they were swamped. The police should have taken over.

Sorry but if you think our stewards are up to the job then I will ask questions. They're a joke

I was objecting to the word fool, not your opinion. Your entitled to think and post what you believe, just because somebody doesn't agree doesn't make them a fool.

I don't condone any violence but just want to say that those at front were the ones that got punched. The ones at the front were the ones giving it large to the Southend fans. Does that then mean one of the friends cousins was one of those giving it large? Both sets of fans are as bad as each other, no goading and taunting would usually mean no violence

I've been to plenty of games and have always made my judgement NOT to fight anyone. Personal responsibility is sadly lacking in this day and age it seems. Go ahead, blame the old bill, blame the stewards, blame anyone but yourselves if it makes you feel better. I trust you will all be digging deep to help the club out with the very sizable fine no doubt on it's way?
I'm sure the bloke (who is all over social media) who threw the punches is enjoying his beers at this very moment. I hope they taste good mate because that's the last time you will be allowed in to a home game. While you're laughing away with your mates just remember, you won't be at the next home game or the next or the one after that. You won't be there next season either or the next or the one after that. I trust your employers don't mind this sort or thing because remember, you're famous!
Hope it was worth it.
No guarantee that he was a regular fan, so probably he couldn't careless about being banned anyway.

What should happen is that he is banned from attending all live sporting events, much as sex offenders get put on the sex offenders list forever.

Now I am not condoning this fan's behaviour whatsoever, but what should be noted was that a large group of their fans were on several occasions trying to charge at the home fans in the West, and were held back by the stewards (who I hear from a reliable source had several punches thrown at them also). Again, I am not in any way condoning their behaviour, but there's no smoke without fire, so to speak.

What disappointed me even more was that the security team sat back and seemingly let it happen. As someone else in this thread pointed out, our security also needs to be looked at after today's events.

It's a shockingly bad site available on most social networking avenues. They put videos and pictures of 'funny' and shocking events in sport.

I've never found SportBible too bad, in truth.

Sure, there's some unsavoury stuff from time to time, but it's well balanced, like the video of the little Everton lad with cerebal palsy.

Our stewards need to get off their arses and come to some away games and see how we get treated. They might learn a thing or two

I think the stewards are getting a really bad rap here. They were being physically attacked from the moment Col U got a player sent off.

My gripe is with the police. It was clear what was happening. If two or three police had gone over there and perhaps started filming then the whole situation wouldn't have happened.

Regarding the fans on both sides who threw punches. Life bans and criminal proceedings. Simple as.

Ok having just seen the clip on YouTube from the Col U fans perspective it only backs up the fact that this guy deserves a lifetime ban from ALL football, nothing less.

I've gone from been astonished at the game to now being incensed that this kind of thing can actually happen inside a modern day football stadium. Irrespective of both sets of fans given it the verbal throughout the game - violence in any form is not acceptable - not least of all when we're trying to encourage families to regularly attend matches.

Finally I actually go to Roots Hall to watch the game, can I suggest that if you're not there for this purpose too that you get the f*** out of our club. Idiotic fans are not welcome.

I hadn't met the lad until tonight and yes like you, I suspect if he was down the front row he probable wasn't in some way 'giving it large' but that does not excuse someone cutting his head open. Ironic in away that he was driven home by Southend fans.

Idiots one & all, both the blues fans who went on the pitch and the Col Ewe fans who attacked the stewards first, and later Bolger, all deserve bans. Stewerds should have been better distributed to the area where any problems would obviously occur and should have had some back up from the police.

Its the idiotic stewards at the club that let him get that far. And not only that, they let him walk back!!
