.......whatever, it's 4 days to our first game - whichever LB we get , or rather if we get anyone, will be a complete stranger to the Team on Saturday - so I won't be surprised if AB starts there with Sankofa in the middle with the new LB on the bench.

Funny, I thought that Tilly said that this pre season was going to be all about playing games and trying out a different style of formation - I don't think Tilly knows what his starting 11 will be - and I bet that at least 2 players who start are played out of position - namely Left Back and Left Midfield. I just can't believe that we leave it all so late

I don't think there are many options, the squad basically picks itself (especially if Harrold and Foran remain out the reckoning). The only big questions are at LB (hopefully a new boy) and LW (probably Walker). the bench will be basically whoever is left: Joyce, Sankofa, Grant(?), O'Keefe, Revell would be my expectation. If we don't sign a LB, Sankofa will go into the back 4, with perhaps Herd taking his spot on the bench.

Looks like Dan Harding may well have been one of the players we were watching tonight, as this says we had a representative watching the former Brighton and Leeds man in action at King's Marsh tonight, in the AFC Sudbury v Ipswich game.

but Preston looks a more likely destination for the 24-year-old. says the Tractor Boys web site - we would stand no chance with wages methinks - only hope would be a long term loan. Interestingly Ipswich play Preston in their opening game and would Ipswich want to help one of their immediate rivals?

I just done a squad selector on BBC and found it very difficult to pick a bench it lets you pick 7 on the bench.
I had Foran, Harrold, Revell, Lokando, Joyce, Herd, O'Keefe and Masters.


So I'm seriously considering taking my boots along on Saturday

You only need 7 on the bench for cup games, its still 5 in the league.

Depends on what is said. If Preston say that he's one of a number of players competing for the left back spot, and we say that he's the only left back at the club (except for a youth teamer) so he's pretty much guaranteed first team football, then you never know...

The lure of personnel in situ (as in the case of Preston) will have some bearing on any decision, but as Backpacking Shrimper says, location can also be decisive. Depends on his personal circumstances. I wouldn't be writing this possiblity off so quickly just because Preston are interested.

I just wonder whether this is a self-perpetuating story, my Ipswich mate whose comments I posted yesterday contacted the editor of TWTD (it was he who said about Preston) I wonder whether he has taken what my mate told him from a Southend fan and made it into a story...

Update from my Ipswich mate:

Harding set up the second apparently, and also started at centre-back (Which isn't his preferred position) but soon moved across to left-back. The TWTD report mentions a Southend representative being at the game, but that could be down to me tipping them off!

We were in for Ben Thatcher, but he's gone on trial to West Ham so I'd be surprised if there was any movement with Harding until we get another left-back.
