Bumped into one of the current 1st team tonight, he was a top bloke given his blunt honesty on the current state of affairs. I won't name names (not for the sake of being a smug Napster type but not to drop this guy in the doo-doo!) but he was very very scathing of Brush and to some extent Austin. He basically said that Brush wasn't fit to coach a Sunday league team!

when you think about it......Tilly is a nice bloke and that needs balancing if you are to get anywhere. Yes, it would be nice to think that players would take the attitude that "Tilly's a lovely guy so let's all work extra hard for him" but in reality, most players I beleive would take advantage of a 'nice guy' and Brushy offers the balance by doing the bit Tilly doesn't like doing. Of course, this ultimately means that Brushy is not as popular with the players - because he makes them work hard. I'm sure this is where the sentiments behind this comment arose.

I've actually heard the opposite about Austin... I think he maybe isn't as popular with some of the fringe players because he's the reserve manager and wants to see commited performances. Brush berated the ressie's last year as they didnt seem to care, so i'd guess Austin has come in and put the wind up a few of them.

And he's the one who scouted and referred Scannel to us.

Brush has done pretty well since he started working with Tilly back in 04. I would hazard a guess this disgruntled player is not a regular and is part of the problem, not the solution.

I know who the player is and it's a first team regular. I'm surprised with his attitude though. Even if he doesn't like Brush & Austin he shouldn't be slagging them off to the fans.

Apart from burying Brush & Austin he also said he went to Tilson in January with a striker recommendation but he warned Tilson it would need a monster bid to get him, needless to say we didn't table a monster bid, more of a kitten one and the striker then went to bigger club where he's doing well.

He doesn't like all the negativity and booing from the terraces recently... especially for M.Harrold.

He still speaks to Freddy sometimes and he's not enjoying life at Wolves.

I'd hazard a guess he was talking about Scott McDonald who is now top scorer in the SPL and will be playing in the knock-out stages of the Champions League. This could therefore be any of our former SPL contingent.....Mark Gower (albeit briefly), Macca or Stevie Hammell. Not sure who I'd suggest from that list though!

I'd be inclined to agree with peanut here - in any line of work, the boss who dishes out the work etc. gets the resentment behind his back from staff - whereas the nice boss gets all the plaudits.

As for who it is - I'm not sure Macca would go off on one about Brushy to a fan. He told me after Huddersfield about his resentment of fans booing etc. especially the likes of matty harrold and lewis hunt - and he mentioned the echo article too - but while he was pretty open about things (i was interested in the foran situation as he is one of my favourite players at the club, and he told me straight up what was going on, fair play to the lad) i wouldn't think he'd go blabbing about the bosses. No idea who it could be...Lawson coming back to Southend on nights out trying to stir sh*t maybe? :D

i would be worried if all our squad loved tilly, brush and the coaching team. there is a bit difference between being mates and earing respect. i bet scholes, keano, beckham etc don't particularly like or call Fergie their mate... but he got the best out of them using the hairdrier and cracking the whip and so im glad brush isn't just a clone of tilly

i would also remind people that brushys son is on this board and plays for SZFC and so to bear in mind it's probably best to say on this board only what you would be happy to say to someones face

Tilly is smashing, it's transparent to see that he is one of the best managers in the division, hopefully in the transfer window he could add a striker to (double) glaze over our striking worries, a top glass gaffer indeed...

my only frustration with tilly is subs, as it is with pretty much everyone. can't see him ever changing this but something seriously has too be done. how can he expect a sub to come on with literally a few minutes to go. before they know it the games over. how can they make an impact or even get involved. in my opinion subs should get 15-20 mins to get into the game. no dis-respect to moose as he is a great player but it is very worrying when your 1 nil down with 5 mins to go and you bring him on.

surely this is doing for harm than good for fringe players who tilly must be wrecking their confidence. it doesn't seem he has much faith in anyone outside the starting 11. these days players thrive on confidence and must be very difficult for some squad members to have any.
