Three Key Games For Tilson

RPG

Guest
For all that Tilly has achieved in the past two years his management of SUFC this season has been very poor for example:

1) Players brought in are no better than players we had last season and in some cases much worse!
2) Players have been played out of position!
3) Apart from Norwich has failed to change tactics during match often making substitutions far too late in game to make impact.

I therefore believe that if we fail to win in the next three matches RM will have no alternative other than to replace Tilly.

Get real.
Tilson will NOT be sacked this season even if we don't get another point between now & May 6th.

He'll get at least 12 games in League One next year too I'd say before any change was even contemplated.

Any suggestions on the replacement then?

Although Ron is smart, I think there may be a hefty payout on Tilly's contract. Still don't think there's much wrong that a couple of 'nasty', 'professional' players would put right.

Get real?

We must stay in the Championship this season it will be a financial disaster if we are relegated especially with the new stadium. Do we want to be another Darlington??

Barnsley who were also promoted last season and are also higher in the league the SUFC have sacked Andy Ritchie. Why do you therefore believe that Tilson has until next season to turn things around.

We have only gained 12 points and we already over a third of the way into the season. Do you honestly believe that the fans and RM will tolerate our poor form continuing?

I get the impression the stadium and on-field performances are all part of a (hate to use the term) 5 year plan. With League One being so bad last season we're ahead of schedule in terms of our league status. The new stadium hasn't even got the go ahead yet so despite all this talk about it being ready for August 2008, it was always going to be a big ask to stay in the Championship for 2 or 3 seasons whilst at Roots Hall. Who's to say if we do go down, we don't do what Brighton did and come straight back up again, therefore lining up on a more even playing field in the new ground (or only hopefully being months away from doing so)!

As said, we really only need a little bit of Championship experience to be injected into this current squad in January as well as I feel, another Championship quality coach to freshen up training. Then 21st place or higher is achievable.

We're not floundering like we were 6 weeks or so back. The Man Utd game has tightened up the back 4 by givinig them confidence. Saturday was a most unfortunate blip. As said elsewhere if we can score first tonight, I fancy us for a 2-0!

In all honesty if Col U hadn't found their feet and zoomed up the table and were playing like they did for the first 6 or 7 games there would be far less unrest in general I feel. I think long-term they will drop back down, particularly if Halford and others leave in January as expected.

Tilson will be given more time for the positive things he has done.

1) Back to back promotions with promotion from League one as champions for the first time EVER.

2) Two LDV finals for the first time EVER.

3) A league cup quarter final for the first time EVER.

Hardly your average Manager is he...?

Grrrr.....all these "replace Tilson" people do my head in. The man is a legend and even IF we go down he should stay manager.

Remember three years ago, or where you supporting a different team back then?

You want constant glory, go and support Chelsea.

Whilst I cannot disagree with your comments 1&2 I find point 3 a bit of a inconclusive arguement. Who is to say if he had made changes they would have worked?

As for being sacked I am interested to know what you think that will achieve? Our sucess has been based upon team spirit and the fact we have had a lot of trust in Tilly & Co.

Sacking the figure head will only destroy what is left of the team spirit. I would also be interested to know which journeyman manager you would like to take over Stan Ternant maybe or Tommy Taylor......Maybe they can save us.

Then again maybe not.......Tilly has my 100% faith - The basic problem we have is not enough quality and the only way to get more quality is money - Which we dont have.

A bit like Ranieri getting the sack at Chelsea cos they only came 2nd (their best finish for 49 years ??) .. mind you, look at 'em now

Are you calling Ron Martin a liar then?

He's already confirmed that finances for the new stadium are in place whether we stay in the Championship this season or not.

Whilst I've doubted his motives in the past he certainly hasn't told us outright lies (unlike his predecessors and maybe even some of the current people around).

I don't want the new stadium but I'm certain he has the club on a sound financial footing relegation or not.

Ok, if you are going to base your argument on when Barnsley sack their manager I'll base mine purely on stats.

Andy Ritchie - Barnsley & Oldham
Played Won Drawn Lost
267 88 76 103

Win Ratio - 32.95%

Steve Tilson - Southend
Played Won Drawn Lost
167 72 45 50

Win Ratio - 43.11%

Tilly deserves a stay of execution then because his stats are higher than Ritchie's. I actually feel sorry for Ritchie as well, they restrict him talking to clubs as they valued him so much highly and then 3 weeks later they sack him.

If Ron Martin ever treats Tilly like that then I couldn't give a monkeys what else he does for the club, every bit of respect for him would go out of the window.

Sacking Tilly is not even an option. Advising him to bring in help maybe, but sacking no. And I think 95% of SUFC supporters would agree.

Nice example

Although if Tilly had been given 25million to keep us in the Championship then I might have different expectations of the man. Unfortunately for us though, it is a shame he hasn't been!

*Cue Tilly has spent money and brought in crap players brigade*

Not questioning your stats but I have Tilly down as W73, D44, L50.  Where did you get them from?

Another interesting one for stattos like me, that's just under 66% of all possible league points gained!
League Record W57 D40 L42

Soccerbase.com - Thought they were usually reliable, but hey let's go with your stats, that's now a 43.71% win ratio for RPG!

Its all about expectations

My 6 year old has been coming to games with me regularly for 3 years now, its just a coincidence that they have been amongst our most successful times ever, problem is despite me sitting him down in the summer trying to explain this season was gonna be so different to what he's been watching pretty much every week for the last couple of years, it doesn't sink in, he is so used to winning that he is devastated that we are getting turned over week after week (don't get me wrong i'm not pleased about it either !!) but i've come to accept it as "oh well, maybe next week"
I think this is a problem we have from younger / newer fans AND NO, I DON'T WANNA START ALL THAT DEBATE AGAIN !!!!
Those that have been through the $hite times must've really enjoyed the last couple of years whilst always fearing the worst for this season
So stick around and take what comes, or keep plugging away cos when we get that win, boy can we enjoy it !!!!

Promotion and Relegation are all part of football.. better to be involved in both rather than being nice n snug in mid table league one obscurity..

I could be wrong but I religiously update them after every game! Something I started to compile when I was very bored waiting out my notice time at RBS!

You do realise I am now going to have to cross-reference soccerbase with mine to see who's right!!!

Look stop worrying, the three points will be coming tonight or Saturday I can feel it!.
