Was the car a recent purchase? I don't recall seeing that written anywhere.I don’t think that’s what he’s saying. The DVLA aren’t instantly aware each time someone purchases car insurance online - let alone if they do it by post - but their records are accurate if just with a minor administrative delay, which is entirely reasonable. Many people have had similar inconveniences (such as putting a sign in your windscreen to say your parking permit is in the post or ‘the cheque’s in the post your honour ). The police would speak to drivers of cars without insurance, tax or dodgy tail lights. I got spoken to once when I was younger for not wearing a seatbelt. That is normal and correct. In George’s case no chips needed to be applied to the shoulder, all he needed to do was explain that he had just purchased the insurance and either provide evidence there and then (the beauty of access to email on your phone these days) or pop into any police station within 24 hours with details. Many people have needed to do something similar without needing to claim victimisation.
I saw footage at the time it happened and if I had been dealt with in that way I would have a chip on my shoulder about the incident.
Anyway I was trying to get away from protracted discussions on here. My only reason for posting was to correct the misconception that he had broken the law - he hadn't.
