Theresa May - Dead woman walking?

TUIB do you think it is right that genuinely illegal immigrants can stay in the UK unchallenged, or access services or benefits to which they are not entitled?

Well they are hardly unchallenged, given the present atmosphere. I don't know the answer to this, so perhaps you can tell me? Would genuinely illegal immigrants open themselves up to identification by trying to access services or benefits, from the checks I've heard have now been put in place; and would they actually stand a chance of getting them anyway?

This is what is worrying for May and co, the fact that Corbyn and co are promising plenty which the gullible are being lured into believing to secure their vote. Yet to see anything to convince me how they're going to pay for what they're shouting about. And that is the whole problem with this country and its politics - Labour dish it out to all and sundry, and the Conservative try and rein the finances in.

I would imagine their spending plans will come under VERY close scrutiny as we approach the next election. The situation, as I see it, is pretty dire and the electorate look as though they will find themselves caught between a rock and a hard place. On the one side a party offering, probably what it can't afford and on the other a continuation of what has been on offer and worse. The post-Brexit Britain, under the Tories, risks being one where public services will continue to be sold off or put out to private contracts. Taxes will be slashed but you'll have to pay for decent services. Hygene standards risk being lowered in order to secure new deals. Workers rights will likely be reduced and investment will be encouraged without too much regard as to where it's coming from. The rich will likely continue to get richer and the poor poorer. Opportunities will almost certainly be there but the safety net won't. I suppose it depends what kind of society you want to live in. It looks as though one extreme or the other will be on offer, with no middle ground.............good luck!

Of course not.Do you have any accurate figures for how many "illegal immigrants" there actually are in the UK? No,I rather thought not.

So the banks go skint after miss-selling and the goverment ask..what can do we now..well say the banks give us more money and then we can lend it to you.

The world is fukked. Just a small cloud in this event horizon.

Nobody does, in any country, as well you know. If we did there wouldn’t be a problem. But that is not the point. They are there and we still need to deal with them.

Surely genuinely illegal immigrants can't access any benefits? The only benefits paid to illegal immigrants is if they successfully claim asylum. Without social security they can't claim a thing. The only service they may access (illegally) is emergency health care, which they would technically be billed for but would probably not pay.

The one thing that anybody can access legally at any time, if they happen to be in the UK, is healthcare which is free at the point of need irrespective of status.

Many things can be accessed - housing, schooling for kids - it is not just about dole payment. Black market working, criminality, drug dealing, Fake IDs - these are common among illegal immigrants who come to light. Tightening these things up to make it harder to fool local service providers is the kind of thing the so-called ‘hostile environment’ is for.

Bit naive to think this? You see it time and time again on the type of programmes that investigate fraud, plenty of illegal immigrants claiming benefits they have no right to. It's undeniably true that plenty of people know how to work the system to their benefit and de-fraud those genuine people who have far greater claim.

Yes perhaps I have been, I was looking at it from the angle that you need to have relevant documentation to claim benifit and didn't look at the possibility of identity theft. A quick Google has found examples of illegal immigrants stealing identities of others to claim from reputable news sources so happy to concede I am wrong in this instance. I'm not one of these stubborn types who will argue black is blue even when they are clearly wrong

When you're a law abiding citizen you probably do think in what would be perceived to be "normal" procedures. Unfortunately, there are far too many who think of ways to get round it. I always wonder just what passes for a conscience in these people.

Jesus have you visited Westcliff recently. It has become the drug centre for those from the east end who bunk the train, deal drugs and carry knives.

Those entering the country without documents are classed as illegal and that status remains until they claim refugee status; which is usually at either point of entry or when "discovered". Their claims can take many years to process and they are entitled to entitled to claim benefits all the while that goes on. If accepted they can continue claiming or get a job, or often both. If their claim is rejected they ought to be removed from the UK but very often disappear and try to start claiming under a new name or a false identity. Plus there are the visa overstayed and the holiday visa people who are entitled to work but do black market stuff. The benefits in the UK are more than in comparable UK countries and many more persons have a smattering of English language than other tongues, all makes the UK a destination of choice.

You people seem to think that immigration controls post-Brexit will solve all the UK's problems, I have news for you-they won't.

Mrs May's post-Brexit plans for immigration have already given the EU the hump and increased the risk of the UK leaving the EU without a deal. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/oct/02/eu-anger-over-mays-post-brexit-immigration-plan

I’m not sure where that came from! Who are ‘you people’? And what has Windrush or the hostile environment got to do with Brexit?

As Rigsby (and others ) have pointed out, it was part of the reason why people voted for Brexit in the referendum.

And as I reminded Riggers and others - speak for yourself alone in why you cast your vote. There are a myriad of reasons why people voted both ways.

I would also say that I’m confident illegal immigration, which we are talking about here at the moment, was very very low on the list of ‘most popular reasons for voting to leave the EU’. Uncontrolled legal migration yes, illegal migration no.

With deliberate spin and miss quote, you should get yourself a job with Sky news Tangled.

I pointed out to you that whilst UNCTROLLED Immigration was on peoples list, we were more concerned with EU financial failure, corruption in Brussels and power crazed nobodies waving their wined soaked little finger at us British.

In other words things you have not only benefitted from but have encouraged and at times, seem to relish.

We? Who are we? Are you speaking for 17.2 million people? I know a few Brexiters who voted out due to a red bus covered with a lie, one who voted out because (and in his words) "what's the worst that can happen?". I've heard people on the radio moaning about immigrants and then in the next sentence talk about retiring to Spain.

Your Internet-chat room paranoia isn't shared with everyone who voted out and it's incredibly arrogant to believe that it is.

I've also heard people complaining about Brexit who have lived in Spain or France for donkeys years, what a cheek, let me remind these people, you don't live here anymore, mind you own very foreign business.
