3-1 The Rays are up now with 1 more game at Fenway and the Trop calling for the win!!!

Closure - I want to close those Red Sox out now - no come backs! If we do it Friday at fenway then all well & good - my heart says fill the Trop & let the fans scream!!!

very true, the 9-1 was ridiculously impressive. you're right to be cautious though- the Dodgers creamed us in the one game they've won, but one great game doesn't win you a series.

What does that make the 13-4 game? But you're right, and those last two great games will be meaningless if we get squeaked by a run in the next three.

Phillies advance to the World Series with a dominant win in Game 5, aided by some hilarious stuff from Furcal for the Dodgers....

Please tell me those Red Sux aren't going to pull another rabbit out of the hat. Last night's comeback was awful (Wheeler totally imploded), surely we can't drop two at the Trop. If it goes to game seven......oh ****.

I kept up with it last night until we were 5 nothing down in the fifth, and i then went to bed in a rather depressed mood. Can't believe the chaps turned it around after all that!

Despite the comebacks of recent years, my confidence in Beckett isn't very high for game 6. Hopefully he won't be hit as hard as his last outing.

So the Rays won last night to go through to the World Series

Have to say I'm torn as to who I'd like to see win it, I always like to see the underdogs triumph and the Rays have certainly upset the odds this year. On the other hand the Phiilies have got there without alot of coverage surrounding them, plus if the Phillies won then i can say I saw the World Series winners play this season.

In other news I found my nemesis this weekend.....a White Sux fan in Rayleigh :nope:

Well I've now watched the game, what a night at the Trop & the crowd delivered too. Loved to have been there. Flights now to Miami, Orlando & Tampa (game 6 if needed) all a grand a pop & I have no money anyway lol!

Really hope the World Series is a good show, obviously want the Rays but at least it will be pleasant change & a newish face! Good luck Maddon & the team.

Worst to World Series
GO RAYS!!!!

Las Vegas Bookies Fear Rays Win

From ESPN.com:

LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas sports books favor the Tampa Bay Rays to win the World Series over the Philadelphia Phillies and would owe huge payouts if the American League champions prevail.

Oddsmakers said enough bettors took the Rays early in the year at long-shot prices to force books to adjust lines to encourage bets on the Phillies.
Sean Van Patten at Las Vegas Sports Consultants said the Rays are favored at minus-$1.35, meaning a gambler would need to bet $1.35 to be paid $1 if Tampa Bay wins.
Van Patten put the Phillies at plus-$1.15, meaning a $1 bet would earn $1.15 if Philadelphia wins.
"What we're also trying to protect here is even more Tampa Bay money coming in," Van Patten said. "What we're trying to do is maybe get a little buyback on the Phillies."
Las Vegas Hilton race and sports book director Jay Kornegay said the Rays were a 200-1 shot for the title before the start of the season.
"It's a significant number for a futures book, but it's nothing that's going to shut down the book or anything," Kornegay told The Associated Press. "It might dim the lights."
Kornegay would not specify how much the Hilton sports book stood to lose if the Phillies win but said other sports books offered even longer odds on the Rays winning a championship.
The Rays were slightly pricier at the Hilton at minus-$1.40, with the Phillies at plus-$1.20, Kornegay said.
The situation sports books are facing with the Rays is similar to 1991, when sports books lost millions of dollars on futures bets because of the Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins, Kornegay said. Both teams rebounded from last-place showings the year before to reach the World Series. Minnesota won the Series in seven games.
"We have learned our lesson that we don't open these teams at 500-1 until the season starts and we realize what they have and what kind of team they have," Kornegay said. "This year, I'm going to guess it's probably in the millions range if you accumulate all the liability across the state."
The Rays were heavy underdogs in the American League East mainly because of high expectations for the Boston Red Sox, who swept the Colorado Rockies in the 2007 World Series, and the New York Yankees.

Predictions? I shall let heart rule head on this occasion and take the Phillies in 6.

Tough loss last night for the Rays but Hamels was always going to be a tough nut to crack. Kaz hung with him and that's encouraging. I'm not going to write off these Rays ever again - twice against Boston I thought they were done and they came back. Other than Hamels, the Rays' starters are a superior group, and I like Shields, Garza and Sonny to take the next three.

suprised we left Howard in at 1B rather than shifting him to play as DH, but very happy with a win in the opening game. to know we'll be at least even going into the 3 games at Philly is a huge boost.

Especially after that play in the first inning. That was horrible. But even with that horrible play, the Phillies still won - just saying it so you can't lozzer.
