Cubs Lou Piniella named NL Manager of the Year, after finishing with the NL's best record. Just need to figure out how to win a play-off game now. ;)

Apparently the Cubs are frontrunners, with the Braves, to sign the Padres' pitcher Jake Peavy with possibly D-Lee & some prospects going the other way. Would give a very strong looking rotation, but we need some left handed hitters aswell.

The biggest prize that isn't actually a prize, perhaps :P

Of course the World Series is the ultimate prize, but for a perennial loser that had been used as an example for sporting incompetence, respect was a huge prize to win. But you're right loz. I would have preferred the title.

No World Series for the Rays, but Pena has won the club's first golden glove, Longoria has won AL rookie of the year and Maddon is AL manager of the year. They have won the biggest prize of all - RESPECT.

Brandon Phillips won the Reds' first gold glove since one of my all-time favourites Pokey Reese in 2000. Coincidentally enough that was at second base as well.

It's hard to get too excited about it when Nate McLouth wins one. Eurgh. It's like if Derek Jeter won one three years running, it would just make a mockery of it all.

Cubs have traded the Marlins closer Kevin Gregg for prospect Jose Ceda, which means they will be letting Kerry Wood go as a free-agent. Wood saved 34 games last season, Gregg 29 and he's likely to share his duties as closer with Carlos Marmol.
