The Final: Nevermind vs The Stone Roses

which album ...

  • Total voters
    75
  • Poll closed .
Doolittle by Pixies

Which is the main reason I picked it. I didn't think S & G's Bridge Over Troubled Waters or Metallica's And Justice For All would give me as much fun & mileage as Doolittle. They were my 2nd & 3rd choices behind Doolittle!

I never thought Doolittle would do as well as it did, especially beating the albums it did! I had fun, even if some people did take it far too seriously, to the point of being abusive! Moron!!

Hopefully the Pixies inspired Nirvana will win!

Now the Pixies v Nirvana would have been the desired match up for me, I would have been totally torn. I really feel that it should be Nirvarna by a landslide but who knows how these things turn out.

As i said before The Stoney Roses have not come up against any real opposition and have almost had a by through every round, but they are up against IMO the righful winner.

Just been told that MK has been PM'ing folk and pleading for their votes!!

The act of a worried man me thinks......excuse me but I am still kind of touched by the comments...."I will let the music do the talking"

:nope:

Oh pur...lease. The arrogance!

If you remember rightly The Stone Roses beat your "beloved" Pixies quite comprehensively, so what does that tell you?

The Stone Roses literally invented the Indie disco, and alternative music as it is today. What did Nirvana give us? Nickleback?

Vote The Stone Roses.

Or other peoples reviews and comments nicked from websites and passing them off as your own :whistling: My love of this album came from my heart.

I simply echoed other music critics comments......................you have been trying your under hand tactics to get every vote that you can....and why is that?

You are on the ropes and you know it. Nothing dirty about promoting the greatest Rock album of all time which in case you have your head up your **** is Nevermind

.

Over a day to go, lots of people left to vote. I am confident that the good people of Szone can see the beauty that is The Stone Roses debut.

Only so many PM's you can send in one day though MK........try letting people make their own minds up, instead of PM'ing them and asking them to vote for The Stoney Roses.

Poor show old boy

Whatever Dave I'm going to bed because it really doesn't matter does it.

Paul, it is only a bit of a laugh you doughnut......stop taking it so seriously, I love the Stone Roses Album and would love it if either band wins, A. becasue they are both superb and B. because the bloke promoting it is probably the closest friend I have made on the Zone.

Go to be and search for that sharp cutting sense of humour that you normaly exibiet mate.

Other albums in the competition you would like to have nominated?

Either of these in the final and Songs In The Key Of Life - Stevie Wonder (which was my first choice as I hadn't seen OBL had beaten me to it).

All McStumpy did was use a different tact. There is only so many ways you can promote your album & I struggled to find the time & write something different. I almost succeeded in doing that. I had planned to use reviews of Doolittle to prove my point about how great an album it is. Unfortunately, the Beatles & Pink Fluff backlash saw to that. I just made the suggestion to McStumpy & he took the advice. He just missed a trick by not mentioning the names of the impartial "experts" & proving his point!

Have you texted him the score yet Coxy???!!

I would have nominated Patti Smith's "Horses" had I had a second album.

Has to be one of the finest debut albums ever, failing that Janis Joplin's "Pearl" - both probably wouldn't have got many votes as the soul boys and girls here probably haven't even heard of them but what the hell...

I love that Patti Smith album and, depending who it was up against, you may well have got a vote for that from me. Janis Joplin is one of those artists I should know more about to form a definite opinion. I know she's critically very well regarded and considered an important and influential artist. However I can't say I know her work that well, something I should amend.

What a great battle this has been, and good to see two very serious contenders in the final (I was worried with all that Beatles and Genesis rubbish flying around)

I've gone for the Roses. Couple of reasons -

Melodically they turned out such beautiful, uplifting music. The album has a rawness: individually they were still learning to play (and Ian Brown is still no great singer) but it came together so wonderfully and harmoniously. For a debut album it's jaw-dropping stuff and of course cast a shadow across everything subsequent. The time is took for them to release "The Second Coming" re-defined the term "difficult 2nd album" although I think "Love Spreads" is sublime.

Time of life - I first got introduced to The Stone Roses on the North Bank of Roots Hall. A fellow Shrimper showing off the Jackson Pollock artwork intruiged me. From the first play to the end I was hooked.

Waterfall - I love this song so much. Just thinking about it makes you feel good. Love and flares.....

Nevermind is brilliant, but in a dark and forboding way. I'd rather be floaty happy. Vote Roses!

I can't believe, Dave, that you're criticising Paul for "canvassing" votes when it's a tactic you've used quite liberally yourself in the past!

cough, cough ;)

I'm afraid neither are particularly my cup of tea, but rock music really ISN'T, so for that reason Stone Roses get my vote.
