The Final: Nevermind vs The Stone Roses

Its a bit of a give away as it is spelt correctly!! ;)

My words came from my heart and soul, how much The Stone Roses album means to me. I'm sure in my lifetime there will still be brilliant music but I seriously doubt that anything will ever take it's place, probably due to the age I was when it came out.

The problem with current and of course past rock is that most so-called alternative bands desperately want to sound normal. On their collar-grabbing second album, and their first for a major label, the Seattle trio Nirvana never entertain that notion. The music-fuzz-blast guitars, throbbing bass-roars and spits with enough in-your-face bluster to make your compact disc skip; left-of-centre rock rarely sounds as alive as the metallic punk of ''Smells Like Teen Spirit,'' the album's first single. Adding to the music's edginess, though, are the lyrics. The characters in singer-guitarist Kurt Cobain's songs all seem vaguely pathological-and oblivious to it.

Cobain's strange idea of a love song, ''Come as You Are,'' has a refrain of ''And I swear that I don't have a gun,'' as if that's supposed to be comforting; in other songs, he mutters lines like ''the animals I've trapped have all become my pets.'' Nirvana may not stand a chance of selling anywhere near as many records as Guns N' Roses, and it is a good job that no one told Cobain; you never know how he would have reacted!!!!!!

err good one:

the only thing sadder than me sticking your posts into google to see who actually wrote them, is to discover that you have paraphrased them to try and disguise it!

either that or your name is David Browne

This is about 2 great Albums John, not you taking every opportunity to have a pop.....move on John, it is becoming a bit sad and pathetic.

Whether it is written by me or someone else, does that really matter? Surely if someone quotes an opinion or a comment it does not detract from the fact that it is true does it?

And yes, you are pretty sad if you have gone trawling through Google to see if I copied it from somewhere else John........Life get a springs to mind.

Pubey's got a point. You could at least write, for example - "This from so-and-so from such-and-such magazine...."

Anyway, Nevermind all day for me and twice on Sundays. MK alludes to how important The Stone Roses was for him from an age point of view and along similar lines, it probably came a little early for me to really appreciate it.

Nevermind, on the other hand, was just at the start of my teenage years and was very much the soundtrack tho those heady days of being a 13/14 year old. Great times.

Fair point Uxbridge, noted for future posting, and may I say a lot more adultly approached.

Your better half only voted in your favour because she said you would have a strop if she didn't!!!

This record actually spawned a sort of indie renaissance and helped to make radio listenable for a brief time in the early to mid '90s. OK, that glory is long gone, but this album is still a bona fide classic, and an essential part of any true music lover's library.[FONT=Arial,Helvetica]

PS. John.........here is the link, it will save you trawling through the internet for the quote.

Sado!!

:D

Voted The Stone Roses but very much like both Bands music.

The likes of Lithium, Heart Shaped Box etc are fantastic listening but I don't have a Nirvana album, whereas I have a Stone Roses CD and it gets played to death.

From this Battle of the Bands I have decided to go and buy Nirvans'a greatest hits (if it exists) and enjoy their music!

A fantastic rally from The Stone Roses has seen the deficit cut to just one vote .. don't forget this is a long final though, with voting going on till Tuesday lunchtime, so plenty of time for twists and turns to come
