The Essex CCC Thread

Looking at the scores, it would suggest that the pitch and/or conditions are definitely bowler freindly. So a lead of 22 could be handy.

Well done Sherlock.
:sherlock:

Not neccessarily, could be monumentally crap batting by both sides......

Anyway, Rtd has taken our 1st wicket, ct Foster - Gloucs 51-1 a lead of 29. For those that can't add up......

Well done Maurice Chambers.

Hopefully we can wrap up the final wicket tomorrow and chase them down. It sounded as if we weren't too keen to go out there and bat tonight.

Apparently, the pitch has a number of divots in it owing to a damp first morning, when the ball made indentations in the pitch, quickly firming up under the sun since then. The wickets that fell on the first day (primarily Gloucestershire's) were down to poor shot selection, whereas yesterday there was some misbehaviour by the ball.

Incidentally, James Foster has taken eight catches in this match, with one fantastically snared down the leg-side and another excellent catch to dismiss Kadeer Ali (and sparking the collapse from 51-0 to 88-8) that the batsman wasn't too pleased about yesterday, according to the daily reports in The Times.

Now Andy Flower is confirmed as Head Coach for the national side i'm sure James Foster will be back playing International cricket this summer ... its obviously richly deserved, though i'd much rather he turn out for Essex week in week out

As much as Fosters glove work is sublime....some of his takes down leg side last year, and standing up to the stumps to seamers was the best wicketkeeping Ive seen....I just can't see him fitting into the balance of the team unless we had a 4 man bowling attack capable of taking 20 wickets, or another genuine allrounder, capable of scoring centuries in the top 6, emerged. Also, I note Ambrose has been chosed for the lions match. Whilst this is good for Essex, I suspect it leaves him 3rd choice at the moment. I hope he does get his chance though as his keeping is an absolute delight.

Agree totally, one thing i did find very amusing was him missing a (admittedly very difficult) stumping chance vs Northants on Sunday, next ball ... out stumped !!!

I think it was Bob Willis who said rather dryly something like "well i can't think what he was doing there, you give Foster one chance at your peril, to do it two balls in a row is just stupid"

Gloucestershire have lasted a mere 13 balls this morning, all out for 119 leaving Essex 98 to win in something like 188 overs .. could be a tough ask that :whistling:

Caught Foster (9th dismissal of match) Bowled RtD (8th of match) .. good work lads

Not started well Essex 6-2 from 4.3 overs.

Gallian out, 46-3. Squeaky bum time. Hopefully Pettini can drop anchor and just pick off the runs slowly.

Making a meal of it that's for sure. On low (ie double figure chases) Id quite like to have seen someone like Middlebrook go in early and have a swipe to knock of a chunk of the defecit quickly.

Come on Essex, great opportunity to get get a win on the board.
