The Ashes - 2010-2011 Thread

Fear not cricket fans, the colonials have no extended batting and will only set 350 or less for victory, the champagne is already on ice.

Not a bad call Swiss it's going to be more than 350, as they lead by 365. England have fought back quite well this morning. I fear that the convicts may have too many already. but the Sky commentators are saying the pitch is not wearing. And the Saffers got 400+ here 2 years ago to win. I've never been a fan of Mr ****ing Cricket, and he's seriously ****ing me off now.

Edit. Swann drops Siddle, bugger.

Anything less than 400 and i reckon this could be interesting. Its not as if we've gotta go about it in a hurry with 2 days left.

Win or lose, England have got to find a way of getting Hussey out, he's single-handedly keeping them in the series.

England to chase 391 to win. I fear that will be too many and the convicts will square the series.

Well done Chris Tremlett with his 5fer, I thought before the tour the selectors had got it wrong, and I'm happy to be proved wrong.

Watson & Mr ****ing Cricket scored 211 between them, the other nine got 92 including extras of 12. England have the best part of 200 overs to reach the target. Stating the bleeding obvious this won't be a draw.

Oh the joy if we could pass the target, please God,you are an Englishman ain't you.

If Strauss can put a commanding 150 in to steer us home, he'll need to be knighted in the new years list. According to Gower, the stats suggest we have a 1.6% chance of victory. What does that toffee nosed snob know anyway?

I suppose in fairness to Gower history is against England, if successful this will be something like the 5th highest run chase in Test history.

Knighthoods for the lot I say.

Luckily Johnson is no Freddy Eastwood, otherwise Cook would have been back in the pavillion.............that reprieve didn't last long ...........Cook gone LBW Harris.......
..........on the slippery slope?

Just seems like a complete role-reversal from the last two tests... I know it's difficult to perform at the best of your ability for an extended period of time, but it's still a massive cause for concern for the rest of the tour.

I'm not sure the triumphalism after the last test (Pietersen in Lambos etc) will have helped. Personally I always thought that Australia wouldn't be that bad for the entire series and that it was only a matter of time before normal service was resumed. I still think we'll probably go on to win the series but it's certainly a lot closer after this match than it was. We're still in with a chance in this match but it's going to take a monumental Pietersen innings again to do so I would suggest.

Not too sure on the triumphalism... I wouldn't expect Flower to suffer anybody's complacency at all and the team know full well the threat Australia possess and, as for the Lambo, isn't that just KP being KP? I genuinely think Johnson's display shocked them and put the cat amongst the pigeons and they haven't quite recovered from that. If you take the combined Aussie total of 577 on face value, England's batting order would've been confident of achieving that without too much hassle last week.

See this session and tomorrow morning out with no more casualties, with KP batting in excess of 100, and it'll be interesting to see the Aussie mentality.

Or the gallows if they manage to f**k the whole thing up!

81-4 Trott edges to Haddin

So it turns out we're not even going to attempt chasing what was a rather challenging total. Let's hope we can regroup for the MCG and that the Aussies' return to form/luck doesn't turn out to be permanent!

England had a shocker against the convicts at Headingly in 2009 and bounced back at the Oval to take the series. England seem to have one bad game per series, Centurion against the Saffers last winter, and Pakistan this summer. England for some reason have never done well at Perth, and hopefully they'll bounce back at the MCG or SCG where they have better records.of Melbourne

Trott out 81/4 Anderson as night watchman. It's possible Ponting may have broken a finger parrying the catch to Haddin, so it's possible he could be out of the Boxing Dat Test.
