The Ashes - 2010-2011 Thread

Well that happened exactly right today horrible performance today from Australia and I wouldn't even claim that England bowled well some of the dismissals were just stupid. Now Australia are bowling poorly with Johnson again bowling incorrect line and length and I can't see Australia coming back from this. I did have a feeling this would happen aka 2009's last test but was hoping that wouldn't happen. I'd be interested to see what the selectors would do at Sydney if we indeed lose this test.

Yes,Englands bowling was very average.

Good post mate and I rest my case. I went to bed after the first hour and the Aussies were 26/1 (sorry 1/26 :winking:) the call of the khazi got me at 515, and I switched on fearing the worst. I was astounded to see England batting, and thought it must be raining and this was a highlights package, I was delighted to learn otherwise. England bowled full, and the Aussie batsmen couldn't handle both length and movement, the fact that all 10 were taken behind the wicket bears this out.

England must build a winning position from here, and I hope they can bat all day tomorrow and maybe a session up to lunch on day 3. I'm not sure where the Aussie selectors go from here, but they must pick a spinner at the SCG, and they can't go into a match there with such a one dimensional attack. Also Ponting is looking increasingly isolated, waving his arms at mid off, he can't score a run for quids, and his captaincy will come under increasing scrutiny if England retain the ashes here. Clarke should be the next cab off the rank for the captaincy but ditto Ponting. I'm surprised David Hussey has never had a chance at test level, and Khawaja seems highly rated, and on the periphery of the squad. There's two.

By the way I'm not sure if I've mentioned this, I don't like cricket, I absobloodylutely love it.

I didn't say that.. I agree England bowled what they needed to do to get the wickets but a few of those wickets were terrible shots by the Australian batsmen. There isn't much in that pitch which was shown by England a lot of the downfall came from the Aussie batsmen and credit for that in some part has to go to England for the pressure.

Ponting is a great captain when enverything falls into place, he is hopeless when everything doesn't. This was illustrated in Brisbane and Adelaide when he would be impatient and set different fields, different deliveries. At least with you guys you have set plans to get batsmen out and don't stop until one of the bowlers has their wicket. I must say the England squad in this tour has been one of the most confident. (not in an arrogant way) They are confident of their ability and are not afraid to nuckle down and perform. I just wish some of the Australians took that medicine rather than slogginng their way out of trouble thinking it's a twenty 20.

Now come on England, make those Aussies eat dirt all day tomorrow and secure the win that will bring the Ashes home to their rightful place.

Just the kind of response we needed following the 'mare in our previous game. Hopefully put on about 400 more today and then declare at around tea or 550, whatever's sooner. If we have that luxury that is. Would love to win this by an innings.

Great day Cricket wise ..nice to see the MCC empty as England took control, but something annoys me big time..why does Smith feel the need to spit every 10 seconds,Ponting is bad enough...I hate it in general in any sport but he is just being a total common arse....:thump:

England won't score 400 in two sessions, it's rare that 400 is scored in a day in test cricket. There's 4 days to go, and England are in control, if they bat through they won't declare until lunch on day 3 at the earliest. That will give them 8 sessions and around 240 overs to force the win.

Blimey 400 in two sessions, tomorrow. If that happened Ponting would top himself.

Hope England bat the day out and put 450 on the board, which IMO, will be enough to bury the convicts once and for all. I'd also like to see Prior help himself to a ton courtesy of the Siddler and Johnson; gobshites.

22 overs til the new ball. We need these two Saffers to show some grit and dig in and be there for when they take the new ball after lunch. With them being bowled out so quickly on day one we just need to bat time, and try to bat for as much of next two days as possibly.

Not that i want to tempt fate but they seem to have settled themselves down a bit now. It has made me laugh being out here since the end of November. After the first two tests, watching the news you wouldn't have known the Ashes was even on. After the test at the WACA which i was fortunate enough to go to (even though i basically saw us totally collapse) it was front page news in the papers and the first story on the news.

Back to yesterday and sitting in the pool with the radio on, the news reporter came on and uttered 'at the MCG Ponting has recently got himself out'

That was it, no score, no information about anyone else. Nothing. By then i knew we were doing well.

Worst thing was at the WACA Johnson was fielding right in front of us and the idiot Convicts sitting in front of me might as well have got on the pitch and sucked him off. Good to see in this test he is back to his usual bowling towards mid off.

If we could bat until lunchtime tomorrow i feel we will win it. I also have a sneaky feeling Colly may get a decent score here.

Seems to be reflected by the amount of aussies in the crowd as well...Makes me laugh that on the first day of each match, or if the convicts are doing well, the ground is absolutely packed, but as soon as England get in a half decent position there is barely an aussie in sight! Love it
