Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Should Maher go?

I’m on the fence until Christmas 2025.

If we are still playing less than entertaining football, struggling to hold down a top 7 spot and haven’t made some serious signings that offer goals and bums off seat moments, then my opinion will change.

I suspect that will be the view held by many and votes will be made with feet pretty quickly post Christmas.

Over to you COSU and Kev. You have a huge summer on your hands here.

Personally, don't think Walker is up to this level even though he did play in the football league, but as much as I wanted Bonne to come good, we will not get the kind of return we need from him or Hopper to get out of this league. What worries me more as I think our best striker is probably Kendall and he simply won't play him.
I believe that Kendall is not fully fit hence why he is not playing as many minutes as you would like.

Ditto,

They need to do some serious business this summer tho imo.

Expectations will be incredibly high, and kevs detractors will have their knives sharpened and ready to pounce at the drop of a point.

If COSU fail to grasp the nettle now it almost guarantees next season to be a write off. No good waiting to give Maher another chance and then finally biting the bullet two months into the season making the new coaches'task ultra difficult. I am sure there must be a growing feeling among the directors that Maher has run out of road, they are surely not blind to the reality.
COSU is built mainly of supporters so they must see what we all see and it must hurt them like it hurts us!! In all honesty they must see that Maher is out of his depth and he needs to go asap. Give a new manager some settling in time and a full preseason.

Either that or they realise Maher has had his hands behind his back and are prepared to give him a chance without the ghost of RM ****ing all over him.

And Clarkey has also pointed out -as he did in his match commentary yesterday-that for weeks now he's thought that a play off place while doable is unachieveable. The only difference between PC and me is that I've been saying it for months now. :Winking:
It really didn't take Mystic Meg to come up with this conclusion towards the start of this tedious season.

Kev was allowed to bring in players when COSU first got involved last year and the majority of this season. Many of those signings have been shocking. Surely we should be seeing better by now. Reality is we aren't.

I imagine a lot of managers in this league would of loved to of had the same budget Kev has had over the past 12 months.

Last year despite Kev being in charge and him signing some absolute tripe we would have been in the playoffs had it not been for a 10 point deduction.

This year he again signed some crap players in Pepple, Golding, KAF, Parillon and we are still in with a shout of the play offs (although not quite in our hands) and the beginning of the season / close of last still had the air of Ron hanging over it. One last parting embargo to scupper some early signings.

I'm confused which one it is. Is it Kev is a crap manager or he has signed crap players. If he has signed crap players how had he got them to a chance off the play offs with 2 seasons in a row.

I'll start to judge come middle of June once our recruitment has started. Not mid to late July once an embargo has cleared and we are looking at the fat kids in the line left waiting to be picked like at School.

We don’t need to add crazy just few with better quality in key positions ie cardwell / pebble for example

I think we generally just need to add 5/6 quality additions in key areas ie a cb
2 wingers with pace and a couple strikers .

There is of course one big, massive, difference. It's easy for a fan to say sack him, change the players etc - it has no consequence to them. For COSU, even though they are fans, their actions have consequences, both financially and on the business they running. They'd need to have a plan on who (how) to recruit - only one (?) of them has ever gone through the process of recruiting a football manager. And of course they'll all have to put their hands in their pockets as well - nothing like that to really make you think through the options.

They'll also know Kev et al far more than the average fan and have the privilege of observing training and behind the scenes activities - who knows what is going on behind closed doors, all sorts might be happening which means he has their backing even if on the field isn't quite firing on all cylinders. A couple of them will also probably be in a position to talk to other owners, chairman, CEO's etc so will have other perspectives/ So yes whilst they're fans, they're not like fans in the stands.

Looking back at the stats on the fees paid to agents, Aldershot paid £200 odd and we paid over £100k
so our recruitment budget must have been a lot more than theirs, yet we have only won two more games than them so far this season......somethings not right

Most of that was paying fees that we didn’t pay under RM, so wasn’t a true reflection on COSU and their recruitment budget, more their righting the wrongs budget, which still continues to this day….

You able to speak for “all” supporters ?
Maher and co are nowhere near being out of their depth…IMO…you can of course have your opinion but please don’t try and speak for me.
A lot of effort was put in to get new players in before the wlndow closed, players who would probably, not guaranteed of course, made a difference, but circumstances wouldn’t allow it.
I, like many will bide my time before slating the man who has stood by us through the most difficult time in our history, but this summer and the period before Xmas is crucial in keeping my support for them.

Interestingly on the subject of the owners 'talking' apparently this coming Friday is one of the rare occasions 'all' of the members of COSU are in the UK at the same time, so a meeting and a dinner is planned with all attending the game against Wealdstone on Saturday.
I'm only aware of this because Justin was unable to accept an invite to attend a local community group event because of it clashing unfortunately.
Must admit wouldn't mind being a fly on the wall.

Off topic alert but I saw Justin taking a snap of the Leasehold board on the Golden Lion before the Braintree game. I said don't chuck your money down the drain buying another Southend business. He chuckled and said it could be a good purchase to compliment / expand the fanzone. I presume the fanzine will be at the top on the land currently occupied by the weeds behind the ticket office.
