People think they want to be entertained, but in reality they just want to see us win and get out of this league.I've voted to keep him, as I think we owe him a season with no embargo etc, however if we're in the lower half of the table by Xmas and the fans are frustrated with his style of play, i'd move him on. I understand it's a results business, but I get a feeling our fans will soon lose patience if they're not entertained
I think the fitness aspect can't be underestated here. No full preseason for god knows how long, some concerns in the medical department, and has the fitness coaching ever been at the level of Mark Williams and Jamie Douglas since they left?I'm not sure I can bring myself to watch that.
I've tried to be level-headed about this subject & fully appreciate the constraints Kev worked under in the past. However I believe there is something really wrong in that team &, unlike many think they are on here, I'm no fooball expert as those who sit near me know so I haven't got a scooby what.
I love my rugby & in the Prem Newcastle Falcons get battered most weeks but they play with a heart that I simply don't see at Roots Hall. Their DOR is about a popular with match officials as Kev as he's on a 6 week ban at the moment. But they have plan that the players they have stick to & again I just don't see that in our play. Falcons may get beaten up regularly but they run as hard as they can for 80 mins. Sound familiar? No I thought not.
Through all my years watching SUFC we've been poor for numerous periods under some questionable regimes, but we are uninspiring at a lower level than ever. Like a Falcons fan I don't expect us to win every week but I'd like to come and see something with a combination of a plan & effort.
Currently our best player LCP is stuck out wide left & I'll forgive his fitness shortage as he was part time recently. KAF was probably our 2nd best on form & he's on the bench yesterday but it took Kev how many months to work out that he could actually play a bit. There's no point in critiquing how poor Husin, Bridge & even GSM (when defending) have become in the last few months. There are several others who simply aren't performing as they can or have in the past, but don't start me on Walker.
So I've finally dragged myself to the Kev out brigade as I simply don't believe our players are as bad as they are looking. 5 points from 15 with the win against a team at the top but only 2 from 12 against teams most of who we could have easily beaten given a bit more nous really isn't good enough.
I've tried to stay loyal to Kev but the team seems to be regressing under him at this crucial time. I really hope he can prove me wrong but sadly unless he can sort out what seem to be wrong beneath the surface I don't think he can.
I remember back in time when there were chants of Rowley Out and Smith Out , look what when they got the team together they wanted . Promotion .I've voted to keep him, as I think we owe him a season with no embargo etc, however if we're in the lower half of the table by Xmas and the fans are frustrated with his style of play, i'd move him on. I understand it's a results business, but I get a feeling our fans will soon lose patience if they're not entertained
Wait.2 Points out of a possible 12 against poor sides shows that we really haven't come far at all. The fact that our full back/wing back is by far and away our highest scorer just outlines the fact that we have never come near to replacing Cardwell and, with other midfielders chipping in very few, we simply are not good enough. I really fear giving the current management team money to get new players given the quality that they have brought in to date. The players I believe could be good enough, unfortunately, the management team cannot get it out of them and with this management team, we will be in this division for quite a few years. The football is absolutely dire, sideways and backwards passing, scared to shoot, no cutting edge and always capable of making a mistake at the back does not make very good viewing. I would really love the current management team to succeed but I really fear they are tactically naive, scared to change systems and very one track.
You have mentioned four players. So many players he has signed simply aren't good enough such as Waldron et cetera. What I don't trust is the management team to get the best out of the players. They seem very shackled, scared to shoot, always wanting to walk the ball in the back of the net. Personally, don't think Walker is up to this level even though he did play in the football league, but as much as I wanted Bonne to come good, we will not get the kind of return we need from him or Hopper to get out of this league. What worries me more as I think our best striker is probably Kendall and he simply won't play him. Appiah-Forson has been man of the match for quite a few games and then Maher dropped him to the bench. I think we will struggle with Crowther and Gubbins, and you mention People and Golding, both great players but both loans. As I said, there's nothing I would like more than the management team to succeed but I just can't see it. Personally, would love to say a manager of the ilk of Dean Brennan at Barnet. They leave us standing on the football front, quick, forward passing with very few stars. But then its all about opinions but it is an entertainment sport and we are far from entertaining.Wait.
On one line you don't trust maher to bring good players in.
Then on the next line you say the players we have are good enough....the ones Maher signed.....EH!
Oh and Maher signed cardwell and kensdale....both brilliant. Pepple and Golding. Anyone of those 4 upgrades our 1st 11.
I will go out on a limb....5 quality signings for the 1st team....we will be up there next year. We are literally a competent striker away from a top 5 finish this year and we have not been good. Kev knowswhere we need to strengthen and he will finally have the chance to actually sign players early and do real business, then add a pre season where there isn't a players strike or no ownership, or court cases up the butt, the players being paid!!!
Kev and Co unequivocally deserve one normal run at it.
I think we may get a tune out of Kendall, but our other current strikers give me no confidence at all. As Paul Clarke said on the commentary yesterday the movement and positioning of Bonne and Walker yesterday was consistently poor. If there's no forward pass on then the ball has to be recycled, what some would describe as Maher ball, or aimlessly punted forward.I do think Kev has an eye for a player and I think the squad we have is capable of gaining play offs, however he is a tactical baffoon. We play better when we play with pace but too often end up playing Maher ball which kills our attacks, this is the main reason for lack of goals in my my opinion. Of course the strikers do miss but they are so starved of service it almost comes as a shock to them when they get a chance but you can't tell me Walker, Bonne and Kendall are poor strikers when there was such a buzz when they signed for us. Hopper is not what he once was but I think there is enough up front to do a job if given the right supply, which they won't get from Maher ball.
But that is rare of Bonne, Clarkey consistently praises him and understsnds how frustrated he must be ehen he does the work and the ball goes backwards or sideways.I think we may get a tune out of Kendall, but our other current strikers give me no confidence at all. And Clarkey has also pointed out -as he did in his match commentary yesterday-that for weeks now he's thought that a play off place while doable is unachieveable. The only difference between PC and me is that I've been saying it for months now.But that is rare of Bonne, Clarkey consistently praises him and understsnds how frustrated he must be ehen he does the work and the ball goes backwards or sideways.
From what I've seen of him Bonne needs to be in a front three, certainly didn't work yesterday as a front two with Walker. But that is rare of Bonne, Clarkey consistently praises him and understsnds how frustrated he must be ehen he does the work and the ball goes backwards or sideways.
