Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Can’t take this boring football no more, get him gone.

Inept, certainly. Frustrating, definitely. Disappointing, of course. But was it boring? I spent 90 minutes yelling at the screen as the game swept from end to end with countless chances missed by both sides, some good saves, some penetrating runs by Parillon, Walker, Akinde and Lisbie, lots of corners..... I don't think it was boring, just poor quality football which led to much arm waving and swearing by me.

If it had been boring I would have fallen asleep.

I think it’s fair to compare our clubs and fortunes with Leyton Orient and C*l U. The 0’s are currently in a League One play-off spot, same with the Farmers in League Two. So what are they doing right, that we are not.

Watching KM on his post match interview he looks and sounds a down trodden man
I'm not sure I can bring myself to watch that.

I've tried to be level-headed about this subject & fully appreciate the constraints Kev worked under in the past. However I believe there is something really wrong in that team &, unlike many think they are on here, I'm no fooball expert as those who sit near me know so I haven't got a scooby what.

I love my rugby & in the Prem Newcastle Falcons get battered most weeks but they play with a heart that I simply don't see at Roots Hall. Their DOR is about a popular with match officials as Kev as he's on a 6 week ban at the moment. But they have plan that the players they have stick to & again I just don't see that in our play. Falcons may get beaten up regularly but they run as hard as they can for 80 mins. Sound familiar? No I thought not.

Through all my years watching SUFC we've been poor for numerous periods under some questionable regimes, but we are uninspiring at a lower level than ever. Like a Falcons fan I don't expect us to win every week but I'd like to come and see something with a combination of a plan & effort.

Currently our best player LCP is stuck out wide left & I'll forgive his fitness shortage as he was part time recently. KAF was probably our 2nd best on form & he's on the bench yesterday but it took Kev how many months to work out that he could actually play a bit. There's no point in critiquing how poor Husin, Bridge & even GSM (when defending) have become in the last few months. There are several others who simply aren't performing as they can or have in the past, but don't start me on Walker.

So I've finally dragged myself to the Kev out brigade as I simply don't believe our players are as bad as they are looking. 5 points from 15 with the win against a team at the top but only 2 from 12 against teams most of who we could have easily beaten given a bit more nous really isn't good enough.

I've tried to stay loyal to Kev but the team seems to be regressing under him at this crucial time. I really hope he can prove me wrong but sadly unless he can sort out what seem to be wrong beneath the surface I don't think he can.

I think this is the thing this season. Promotion wasn’t expected. But in the last few weeks an opportunity arose and completely opened itself up for us to get into the playoffs. But we’ve done our absolute upmost to not take it. So many results have gone our way.

Should Maher go, not just yet he deserves the summer.

But after the run of recent results going for us, we should have got in the playoffs comfortably.

But that unfortunately probably shows where we are. A mid table national league team.
The mid-table thing is intriguing because usually this scenario is based on being able to beat clubs below but not above, and with us it’s the other way round.

We need a centre-back who can bring the ball out of defence and open up the opposition’s midfield like Kensdale did and more recently Golding. If we can sign the latter that would be a major boost. And obviously a new striker who knows where the net is.

I don’t think we’re far off being serious promotion contenders. Just imagine having a proper pre-season for the first time in ages, no hanging embargoes, Maher having a potential carte blanche to at least make signings at the same time as every other club, players at full fitness, etc.

Could do with a new physio as well.

My position hasn’t really changed since the thread started. I don’t believe he is the right man to lead us back to the EFL, and I think he has had fair backing from COSU in the transfer market. However, the guy is a SUFC legend and without his loyalty when the chips were down, we’d have possibly been another division south of where we are today.

I can’t see us making the play offs, but even if we do, we’re just not competing with top 6/8 sides this season, so it will be short lived.

Have a full pre season, give him until November/December. If we’re not near the top by then, I think it’s time to move on with someone else.

I leave desperation to those who have an inexhaustable supply of excuses for Maher's failures.
It’s never been about excuses, it’s context. However, what will please you is that clearly the context for judging the performance of management is now different and next season will be completely different (hopefully). But also, has Maher really been a failure this season?

Until we get some real energy and power into our midfield we will never be able overrun teams (no good having all the ball and going side to side if no end result). Our forwards are always arriving 2 seconds too late to any crosses in six yard box.
