Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Should Maher go?

Yes why not build up then knock down another club legend- we’re good at that…
Did tilly or powell stop being legends just because they parted ways?

No, both are still legends in my eyes and if the club parted company with Kev tomorrow he would still be a legend.

Doesn't make him the right man for the job right now.

At least Tilly and Barrett would get the maximum out of what we have and get the team attacking and playing with a smile and swagger.

Totally agree, and if we kept Wood in and around the squad, we could do:

Walker, Bonne, Kendall
Waldron, Hopper, Wood

Which would also see Wood playing on the right of a front 3 which is arguably his best position and one he’s not really had an opportunity to play.

I would 100% rather see this than see us take a striker off and revert to 3-5-2. It just absolutely kills any sort of impetus and we seem to immediately look like we’re on the back foot.
Wood has gone and I don’t blame him. It’s ironic that we switched to a system which would’ve suited him at the same time as he goes out the door though.

Risk taking on signings is inevitably greater outside the football league and that risk is amplified by many of the players you've stated not being first-choice targets.

The term 'bargain bin' is a euphemism used by retailers to get rid of end-of-life items. It's not full of bargains, it's full of cheap **** and we have been using it for nearly a decade.
Bargain bin signings. From clubs like the ones that beat us at home yesterday?

Let’s be realistic, we are 3 points off the play offs and have won 4 out of the last 5 in the league. Maher does not ‘need’ to go because we get knocked out of the ****ing FA Trophy.

Just take a look at the teams still left in it (or not in it, more to the point) to see how important this competition really is.

The result and performance were not good enough, everyone knows that. But if the reaction to that is we go and win the next few games in the league and find ourselves in the play offs, nobody is going to care that we are no longer in the FA Trophy. So let’s save the judgement until after the next few games in the league.
All well and good about the trophy agreed, but I'd like to know where the goals are going to come from ? As Bim made his own goal chances plus GSM goals, without those two , who's going to come good , be nice to look dangerous from corners free kicks and crosses, kev and Co haven't exactly improved those areas of the teams play have they?.

So you weren't behind him or the team the previous seasons of bewildering achievements under the worst possible conditions?
Fickle doesn't cover it.

I was, yes. He and the team achieved remarkable things in the face of adversity. This season though that support has wavered after the **** performances, especially at home. Call me fickle all you want, I have lost complete faith in him and his team and time after time this season just when I think, actually maybe I’ve got this wrong.. they go and prove my own beliefs right.

Doesn’t fit with the rhetoric some spin though.

If Kev was to go, AB would be my first choice as his replacement. I did have reservations about another legend, but you’re absolutely right. If it didn’t work out for Barrett, he’d still be an absolute legend of this club.

Supposing COSU sacked Kev tomorrow. If he was at a game in a couple of years time as a guest and was introduced on the pitch before kick off, I’m certain all four corners of the ground would give him a standing ovation. Because he’s an absolute club legend in every sense.

FWIW though, I still want Kev to get rid of some deadwood in the summer, freely recruit with no soft drinks, have a proper pre-season, and put together a squad capable of getting out of this league. And if by Christmas we’re not at the races, there’s a conversation to be had.

Why do people call the embargo “soft drinks” or “fruit drinks” when the word isn’t banned .. am I missing something

As things stand, even after yesterday's performance, 288 voters (47.6%) are still prepared to keep Kevin Maher as the Manager of Southend Utd. Whether that will change as results progress is anyone's guess. But when posters on here state that the majority of supporters want him gone now, the statistics do not back up that assumption. How that reads across to attendances isn't clear, but the Maidenhead and Halifax gates might give an early pointer. No doubt COSU and Tom Lawrence will be monitoring those sort of statistics closely, but I do not believe that stat would be the be all and end all of input to their decision making.

Would FGR and Barnet be doing as well and playing decent attacking football under Mr.Maher….i don’t think so, enough said, bye!
I think if Kev had the budget of these “huge”clubs, or even close, things would look different- but sadly we are nowhere near competing financially. This is where we are…regrettably…
