At what point do management realise these players don't look comfortable in this system? It's one thing to look good or great in your role in a system, but these players individually do not look comfortable. I still can't tell what influence is greater, the manager for chosing the roles and setup, or the players for showing no grit. Very tough times. I sincerely hope he is the one to fix it, but I do not think he will. The only thing I will stay adament on, is that he wasn't able to get his preffered squad. Maybe that can change in Jan/Summer, who knows.

Firstly did anyone realistically think we were going to go to York and stuff them 3-0 or something. I would have took a point before kick off all day long if we could have managed it. That said something has gone wrong this season with the spirit of the team. The energy levels and commitment have definitely dropped off it seems. Who knows the reason for that? but something has to quickly change. It’s easy to blame Kev, but honestly, if you were a manager how many of our players would you be chasing to get into your side? I’m guessing financial constraints are dictating who arrives at Roots Hall to pull on a shirt. Our next two games are crucial, and need to be convincing wins.
Personally I think we are lacking in a few tough hard man type players. Often the oppositions players look like men, bigger, and more robust. I don’t think we’ve got enough players who can physically assert themselves in a game, apart from Bim.
Big strong lads with talent urgently needed in central defence, central midfield and up top. Then perhaps we could actually defend corners, and attack with better outcomes from our own set pieces. When Bim goes we ain’t got anyone in that mould. Maybe some of the stats guys on here can let us know how we measure up pound for pound in weight and height compared to the rest of the league. As currently in many matches we’re looking rather light weight. In short we need some leaders on the pitch as I can’t see any at the moment.

It should be crystal clear by now that we are going nowhere with the present set up. No doubt we will get maximum points against two teams even worse than us in Ebbsfleet and Braintree but that will not change anything in the long run. The project has run its course. Bridge, Miley and Husin, three key players in our siege mentality period have gone completely off the boil and mental, if not physical exhaustion seems to have set in across the players and management. The longer this limbo goes on, the worse it will get. Even Tamworth, with ex blue Wreh scoring the winner, are above us now, which says it all.
Might help keep us out of non league south tho..

I have to say, I was told the same that Kev wanted it to just go away and carry on as if nothing happened. Apparently he didn’t even want to hear about it and the players should sort. It was only when players made threats that he finally stepped in.
These players realise their season was ****ed when they forced Kensdale out, it’s lots easier to get rid of him when we are winning games and scoring goals, now we are losing and leaking goals, it’s highlighted in the wrong way.

I’d give Kev until end of feb to turn it around. As a target I’d want us close (3/4 points off max) to a play off place by then.
If not then he goes, along with the coaching team, and probably John Still.

New boss given two months to assess the squad and identify targets for early (aka Barnet style) summer business to ensure we are raring to attack next season and get out of the ****ing awful league.
This would be the thing that would make me particularly angry- the club saying thanks Kev for putting up with all the cr*p and working miracles- now we want to give the opportunity you deserved but we’re never afforded to someone else.

Happily the members of COSU are made of sterner stuff and won’t be hitting any panic buttons. Especially as they know first hand the job he’s done, and the targets we should have had on board if it weren’t for the fruit drink.

What proof of that do you have? They’ve never had to make such a decision before and is it really a panic button when you’ve won just 6 games all season? Failure to win the next two games should trigger a change.

I would rather see Kendall in than Bonne. He looks far more lively.
The main issue being Bonne is the only forward player we have he can compete in the air. When he doesn’t play the opposition CBs dominate and the ball just keeps coming back. If we had a different more athletic and creative midfield then maybe we wouldn’t need that. But we do I think…

I agree, and he also seems to bring out the best in Pepple. Why not play all three though? I’d like to see us go back to 4-3-3 in the next two matches with Kendall, Pepple & Bonne as the front three. Time to try something different and at least attempt to get on the front foot.

I sort of get what KM is trying to achieve, keeping the system the same and seamlessly filtering in players to that said system.
Problem is, so many players are low on confidence and out of form, it just comes across as bitty and disjointed.
None of us have an idea, what a first choice starting eleven should be. However, I would suggest we settle on one, let them get on the same wavelength and then make changes only, as we have to.

That wasn’t the case.

The players got to the bottom of what was going on, and went to Kev. Never wanted to carry on as normal or sweep it under the carpet.

I think it’s clear that a (good) few new players are needed. One thing I can’t understand with Kev is that even when he signs players, often for players who are failing, he seems to want the incumbents to have a chance before the new player. It seems that even if we signed the Liverpool first team that they’d have to wait 4 games to get a start. The only explanations are that he feels they need time to understand the system - which should be made more simpler if that’s the case; or he is signing player to make up the numbers still - and maybe Golding is no better than Crowther after all.

You keep defending every post that doesn`t shine Maher in a light? People have their own opinions, the football, bar Eastleigh, Charlton and FGR has been dire!? From the outside looking in, it looks like he has lost the dressing room? This has all happened post the Kensdale incident? This team should be preforming better than they have? coincidence or not? I watched a post match interview recently where Maher was asked if the players had lost the fire in their belly? Maher`s expression and tone changed to quite an angry look and tone, saying no they still have the fight in them. These next two games against teams we should be beating is a chance to have a real go? Maher and co have been after Kendall for some time now, so we are led to believe, FFS play him, it`s not as if he hasn`t been playing , he`s up to speed, build around him. I personally wouldn`t give them the chance to build, buy players and go into next season. Something is not right between Maher and the players? If it isn`t that, then we are just really bad. But we`ll keep hearing the same excuses that are now wearing thin. Selecting players that are out of form, and better players subject to the bench, because Maher can? As I`ve said before we all love Southend United FC and that will be a constant, managers will come and go. Will COSU stick or twist? On a sustainability front, giving them long contracts, we are probably stuck with them no matter how dire it gets?

I like your posts, and its great to have some inside info.

No offense, but the complete authority with which you are dismissing anyone elses opinions is coming across as a bit arrogant tho at times. As though nowone elses opinions or sources are valid.

Somethings happened morale and spirit wise, that much is clear. Sometimes there is more then meets the eye.

I have voted "No" to the thread question.

I do however think the management 3, plus Tom, JS and JR need to sort out a few things with their collective ideas.
It is no use moaning about the refs and getting cards; Kev - Daz: then moaning when players, (especially Gus), get cards for the same.
And they need to recognise that antagonising officials doesn't help with getting decisions or 50/50 chances, this is simple mind games stuff which they all know, but seem to be forgetting in the heat of the moment.

And getting the team going forward, faster, has to be an ethos, not a shout from the dugout when play is on. It needs to be ingrained ,and it needs to be "protected" by not, with the next shout, calling for shape and (slow) retention; simple stuff, but as the saying goes "you can't have your cake and eat it."

Quite so, re these repetitious denials, to use an old fashioned expression, the record is stuck in the groove and keeps repeating the same music over and over again. It's quite clear the game is over and it needs to be recognised by COSU now. Wins against Ebbsfleet and Braintree will just be a temporary sticking plaster which won't change the underlying problems.

I neither support nor disagree, but that individual post isnt defending or supporting Kev or anyone, he is simply stating what is believed to have happened with Kensdale.

Even so, I disagree with stuff he posts, but thats football. I only disagree with his opinions or views, I am not one to disagree with altercations or incidents that have happened, especially when I have zero idea what has happened. You are more than entitled to an opinion, doesnt mean you have to force them to change their mind or that people are wrong for not supporting yours.
