Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Should Maher go?

Going to games is what football is all about, always has been and always will be. In fact you can argue your views are skewed because you are sitting at home on your own watching a **** team on a **** stream - how dull...you are missing out on everything that makes football fun. It not surprising that the most negativity is coming from two people who watch football on the telly.
Absolutely, the atmosphere is tempered at this level, the atmosphere that comes across on tv is horrendous. Soulless and passionless, everything you never signed up for as a fan. Add in a disinterested commentator and frankly, theres grass to be cut and washing to hang up 😄

I don't think anyone seriously thinks we are going to clinch a play off place still less actually get promoted unless they live in a fantasy world.
I assure you, Kev is going nowhere.

We are 8th; 16 points ahead of Aldershot, the highest placed team still in the relegation zone, and our current 5 game league average is 2 points/game.

I think you need to start accepting the status quo at this point. No matter how hard you bang that drum, the chances of KM getting sacked this season are so remote as to be mathematically insignificant.

I hope this hasn't made you (and others) as genuinely angry as you come across in some posts on this thread. There are so many other things in life to direct that energy towards. If Southend Utd are getting you down, I would sincerely recommend taking a break for a bit.

And when we played the Shots at their place, iirc they were level with us or slightly ahead on points. We've been on a nice little run since..

Thanks for your concern but I do not feel angry and it is not getting me down. Debate is healthy and other points of view are part and parcel of a forum. The defensive attitude of so many Maher supporters speaks of a basic insecurity as soon as the man is questioned. If COSU choose to close their eyes to the unsustainability of the current regime that is up to them but it doesn't bode well for the future. In my humble opinion of course.

I watch football whether on tv or at a ground for the entertainment value of a contest between two teams displaying their individual and collective skills. Similar to watching a film or going to the theatre. Shouting, screaming and singing has never for me been a part of the experience. I pay to be entertained by the professionals on view not to be part of it.

1968 for me so hopefully I'm not Johnny !
Of course there are plenty of good reasons why people can't attend. Nevertheless there is a disproportionate amount of criticism on here compared to the atmosphere at matches. In my opinion.
1952 i saw my first match,i was born in Albert road just off of York road ,went to Porters Grange primary school

Don't think COSU have closed their eyes to anything; I suspect they've had their focus on getting things sustainable off the pitch, whilst keeping things ticking over on it. They know that staying in the NL is unsustainable and will want us out of it ASAP, but at the same time, they knew we came into this season behind everyone else.

You don't get to be as successful as some of COSU without being able to make tough calls when necessary, but you also don't there by treating people who've stuck by you like dirt.

Because it is true and bears repetition to underline that no other manager would have been given so much rope. Most clubs don't wait around in the vain hope that things will change, they do something about it. Of course it doesn't always work but at least they tried.
Success this season will be measured by many things and results are only a small part. The Club has made progress in many areas and I don't recall Justin and COSU promising promotion at any point at the Cliffs or since. Our management team is going nowhere and rightly so. Anyone who thought that new owners guaranteed promotion are sadly mistaken. The mismanagement in the previous 20 years or so was never going to be corrected in a few months.

I think I'm likely to remain in my camp regarding the latter part of your post but I'm pleased to see that you're not going spare because we're 8th with 14 games to go and you think the manager should be sacked for that. No one should be resorting to 'nazi' jibes or any other name calling. This is all just a difference of opinion.

As Ricky Lee Jones once sang. "You don't get all that bread, by being slow in the head". I'm sure COSU will continue to monitor the management for the remainder of this season. We shall see what occurs.

It's precisely because of the fact that we are actually 6 points behind with 42 points to play for. Rochdale just below us have games in hand and we are yet to play other teams above us such as FGR, Altrincham, Gateshead etc. Our poor goal difference is another factor so realistically it's more like 7 points.
No strictly true. Halifax are 6 points ahead with a GD 3 better than ours. In order to catch them, we must win 2 games while they lose 2 games. Even if f we win those two games by a single goal, and Halifax lose by single goal, that will leave them on +6 and us on +7. So, GD isn't actually that big of an issue.

I think that's the worst thing, people sniping at each other, we've all been on the end of it, if you put an opinion out there, whether that's Maher in or out! Sad that people have to react that way really.

My thing has always been the style of play but how can I bang that drum the longer were getting results and climbing the table!? I don't/didn't see us collecting as many points as we have over the last few weeks so despite my personal opinion he's doing his job. I might not always enjoy it but in no world would I expect him sacked at the moment.

I'm certainly not convinced that we'll carry it on, we've been too inconsistent this season and have chosen to play negatively and made some (in my opinion), very poor tactical changes and substitutions. I don't think he's the right man but as always, happy to be proved wrong and after losing Cardwell and Kensdale, if we finish in the playoffs I think we have to accept he's done a good job - even if the style has been woeful at times.

I’ve found myself sniping at people in the stands, shouting abuse at our players for no good reason. Have they forgotten what most of the group did for us and that we are non league? If we supported our team how we should we’d have 6-10 points more from home games this season IMO. What’s happened to the Southend Till We Die attitude? I go to support my team that I’ve been through a load of crap with recently. I was proper down and angry when I thought our club was on the brink and I am riding a wave of thank **** I still have a club and that won’t change regardless of where we play or how we play. I start singing when we go down 1-0 or when we conceded at 2-1 the other night. I try to show vocal support when things are going bad, not good. The players don’t need us when they’re flying they need is when they are struggling. Like people in life.

Fair play to the flip floppers, but dont see the point of keep changing your mind one way or the other after a win or a defeat.

I've planted my flag in the Maher out camp a couple of months back and not going to keep swapping as the weather changes. I dont think he's tactically astute enough, his decisions are odd at best of times and dont like his snippy attitude now to crowd and press (though I do understand why, just think should be above it).

Sincerely hope he proves me wrong as will mean success for us. But my opinion is I dont think he's the right person right now.

I change my mind within the same match. First miss I'm Maher out, couple of nice passes Maher in, bloke next to me moans at Hayes for distribution I'm Maher out, Gus smiles at the crowd Maher in, Maher looks moody Maher out, sliding tackle Maher in. Don't call me a flip-flopper I'm just interpreting the evidence but it is exhausting
