talksport this morning

When Ron makes any bid for a player..The whole world knows about it,Yet when we bid for anyone its more secrets than MI5.

I don't think this is anything new as it's been common knowledge to us for a number of months. However the more the rumour perpetuates then the worse the situation becomes with other creditors who might otherwise be held off looking for swifter payment.

im just impatient and want it to be sorted....this and the open publicity now from the beeb, (the blog and talksport) i just ignored before but it seems to be getting more vocal each day.

Disagree -

We like any club dont name our targets for fear of the move being hijacked.

Ron may give you some info after the event but I dont see why thats an issue. I personally like to know who we were after. I would prefer this to having no info at all.

I still believe there was no 'bid'.

Going back to the time, I went onto the Millwall message board (ok, they are no more privvy than us, but every club has its insiders) and someone who knew the local reporter in Lewisham, said that they had 'made enquiries' but no official bid as we were asking for 'silly money'.

Other fans also said that they heard they were in for a 'League 1 midfielder', but never actually placed a bid.

I still say it was all propaganda to deflect away from the Revell story - the timing was far too convenient and it was more an excercise in 'oh, look at us turning down a bid for our fan favourite midfielder' (ok, OBLs favourite).

In all honesty, how much difference is there between "made enquiries but they wanted silly money" to "we turned down a bid as it wasn't enough" anyway. If the club has categorically told us they turned down a bid, then that's enough for me. Whichever way it was, if we were skint enough, we'd still have worked harder to turn those enquiries into cash - and we didn't.

How about this for a fictitious scenario :- We play Millwall, Kenny Jackett speaks to Tilly and says something like "Macca would fit in well with my team of cloggers, how about I offer you £100,000 for him ". Tilly replies "My chairman would want £200,000" and KJ says "I'll chat with my chairman and get back to you if he OK's £200K". End of story.

I think the proof of the pudding is what happens next week.

If the club goes into administration or liquidation, I think a lot of people will rightly want to know why we are supposed to have very recently turned down a bid for £200k for an inconsistent player in a part of the field where we are already very well-covered. We will also want to know why there have been delays over the development plans that have in turn delayed Sainsbury's release of monies.

On the other hand, if by this time next week the club has paid up the money owed to HMRC and avoided administration and liquidation, the turning down of a £200k bid for Macca will be a non point. Of more concern then would be whether we will be in a position to cash in on Barnard's good form for what he's really worth to help keep the club going to pay the next lot of debts, or whether he will go the same way as Gower and be able to move on when his contract runs out.

Is the Macca bid or non-bid, whatever it was, of any relevance to the tax bill?
If we owe £600k we don't have and someone offers us £200k, we are then left with £400k we don't have. Simples?

I am pretty sure the tax man would only be too pleased to get £200K and wait a bit longer for the rest rather than get very little.

I think that is the least likely explanation to be honest.
The Macca bid story was on the OS minutes after the Revell loan story and now infamous GK statement. At that time the latter was a non-story as far as the club was aware, it only blew up afterwards. Let's be honest about Revell - just about everyone thought he was an honest trier but not good enough until the GK statement. It was only then that he became a 'fans favourite' because it was a convenient focal point for the disquiet there is around about the financial health of the club. Alex Revell may be the only player to have his name chanted by fans for the first time after he has left a club.

When the sage of Market Harboro speaks, we all listen

Actually, I don't believe there was ever a bid either as it goes. Not got anything to base my belief on as such, just comments picked up from various people who were much more likely to be in a position to know the truth.

I can't agree with that.

Surely, by Ron Martin naming Millwall as the Club that bid, if it wasn't the case Millwall would have complained to the Club, made some sort of statement denying it.

I genuinely believe there was a bid for Macca, and I wonder if we would have taken it had it been a little earlier rather than on deadline day when we had no chance to go out and buy or loan a replacement.

Then why the story on the OS?
I am not claiming to have any info either way on the 'bid', I just don't buy the 'Macca bid to deflect attention from Revell loan' theory.

Positive spin to counteract the hugely negative spin? If things go t*ts up next week, then I'm quite sure we'll discover the truth. I just think it's hugely ironic that this "bid" coincided with his loss of form - and if it WAS contrived, then I wonder if he was uncomfortable being used in such a way - don't know, just a distinct possibility in my eyes.
