It's worth having a discussion with the fan base as to weather they'd be for or against it. I think that the Shrimpers trust or a fan group, similar to what's happening at Pompey should take over. Best to find out the full picture if you can on FF. It's complicated, we can say that.

The Trust just dont have the finances and not sure we should be doing anything that Pompey are doing, they may us look rock solid stable:smile:

You know it is a waste of time mate,it is all built on a pack of cards with Sainsbury's holding a pair of Aces and RM holding 2,8.
Indeed. But it would be nice to hear from him that the club wont be sold.

If by some miracle he would consider it, it would be nice to see some figures and whether any parties would step forward. Then we have some alternatives and something to discuss.

Worth a shot?

Rons announcement would be things are ok though because they are playing Blackjack (whilst sitting at a poker table)

True. The biggest problem is that you need someone with money to cover the majority of the price and to have that business image etc.

True that the biggest problem with the Roots Hall is that Sainsbury's wouldn't be happy to not be able to build there but a deal for Fossett's could be included. I'm sure there's some sites available in Southend or Leigh.

There is only one place left in Southend to build a new ground and that is Fossett Farm. There is only one place left in Southend where Sainsbury's can build their new store and that is Roots Hall.

I'm not sure where you think these other sites are? The land at Priory Crescent would not get permission for a football ground or a large Supermarket.

Pitty no exciting news from Ron about the new ground. Still lots of work to be done, I can't see work starting within the next 12 months.

Actually thinking about it, there is a chance planning permission for a new ground would be granted at Priory Crescent but the housing & retail development would not be allowed, so thats still a non starter.

How about asking Mr Martin if before he goes ahead with FF ,will he endeavour to get Southend United solvent again ,will he concentrate on getting Southend in a solid and strong financial situation where they can truly look forward to a good future and higher division football, because really only when this happens should the club think of moving into a new larger stadium

My two cents here.

1. - The 3 sided stadium
As I understand it, the club asked for the planning permission to be amended to allow the initial development of a 3 sided stadium due to the fact that there was no immediate possibility of finding a tenant or taker for the 4th side. I believe this is the bit to be funded by Ron personally and for his direct benefit. The other three sides I think are being funded by another company or companies in which Ron no doubt has a benefit, but I do believe that the 4th stand is his. Perhaps McNasty can ask this question next time? Anyway, the application also stated something like the fact that a tenant would be found asap, but probably not in time for completion of the remainder of the project, so the specific amendment of 3 sides to be built at once with the 4th side added later was submitted. In making the decision, the Council had to consider the possibility that it may take a long time for the 4th side to be built and there was also a possibility that it may not be built at all, due to any number of circumstances. On that basis, would the Council be happy to approve plans for a 3 sided stadium? They decided yes. The Ron bashers on here immediately interpreted that as being an indication that he wanted to build only a 3 sided stadium and that's that. Does anyone actually believe that he is going to totally abandon the bit that provides him personally with the wealth?

2 - Selling the club
The club has nothing to sell. SUFC and the FF development are linked and owned by a whole group of companies. FF is inching towards completion and whilst there would no doubt be any number of interested parties in the whole thing, the main attraction would be simply making the money that RM is going to make. To compensate that loss of future income, RM would want a sum of money that would almost certainly make the deal unattractive to a buyer, plus he would again almost certainly call in his debt of unpaid rent. A rich Russian Oligarch or Arab Sheikh wanting SUFC as a plaything may be interested, but I'm not sure that it would be in the clubs best interests either. Anyone that whimsical would be just as likely to dump us later in an even bigger pot of mire. It does seem to be that our best hope is for a huge Euromillions win to someone in the area, and then hope further that the winner is Ron himself.

3 - The stay away fans
Do you actually think that you're helping? You're treating Ron as though he was a naughty child and you're withholding his pocket money. As ordinary fans we can't actually do very much, but what we can do is pay our money over the turnstile and buy club merchandise. You claim to love the club, but you are directly and adversely affecting it's financial health. As a fanbase, our collective financial power can actually get the club out of this mess. We have the power to provide the funds to get the embargo lifted. If you aren't willing to put your £20-odd quid in for a match ticket, then why should anyone else put their money in to provide players you're not willing to pay to watch? If you don't want to go anymore then that's fine, but don't then claim to be a supporter of the club because you're not. You are just someone who looks out for the results.

It was definitely mentioned at the meeting that it would be beneficial to get higher crowds to provide more income.

That goes without saying and perhaps it might be time for people to put their differences to one side, put their hands in their pockets and buy tickets and return to watching the football.

It can only be good for the future of the club.

Kettering are going out of business. One of the key reason is that they (stupidly) moved to Rushden and Diamonds, and everyone stopped coming.

I don't really understand why people have stopped coming as some form of 'protest', you're just accelerating the decline, and I fully agree with FBM

This notion that fans are staying away as a 'protest' is fanciful. Yes there will be a few poeple who wont come becuase of RM / previous bad treatment by the club but my guess is thats a couple of hundered at most.
There are 2 main reasons why people dont come...
1. We are at present an average mid-table League 2 side playing pretty poor football (hoofbnall) against such star opponnents as Accrington, Torquay, Burton, Barnet etc, its a far cry from the heady days of the championship and hosting the likes of Leeds, Wolves, Norwich etc
2. These are harsh economic times and £20+ to watch league 2 football will be considedered a luxury spend for many families at the moment.

History tells us that being at the top of the league and getting promotions = bigger crowds.
Quite how we get promoted when the manager is unable to strengthen his squad because the chairman wont pay the bills is the question. So Mr Martin, if you want more ppeople to come so we can generate more money you need to sort out the embargo.

Indeed Port Vale have 6 bidders, its a simpler purchase but theres also no money to be made from redevelopment either.

As Ive said repeatedly just because we dont know the names of a buyer doesnt mean there isnt one, who had heard of Ron Martin when Vic was in charge?

Thats all by the by, first thing is to try and find out what the actual situation is with Fossetts and the medium to long term strategy, if there even is one. Questions for the next meeting, but I dont think Ron will be giving out much information unfortunately.

TB got slaughtered for a poll that wasnt far from that...

Lol Slaughtered? not my fault half of the clowns on here could not understand it!

But everyone is saying "He won't pay the bills" when in reality he can't pay them as there isn't enough money to pay all the bills as they fall due. That's a general football problem, not a Ron problem.

But we, as fans, have the power to rectify that situation. What you're saying (correctly) is that more people come to watch a winning and successful team. But when the club is in the mire, as we are, then what's wrong with the "fans" of that club that they profess to love beyond anything else, coming out to support the club regardless of playing performances? What we need is people attending to help the club financially and forget about the entertainment. People need to attend to keep the club afloat and solvent. Then, if we get the embargo lifted, the players will come and the rest will follow.

We are in a situation now where our club has gone beyond that of simply being in the entertainment business and it's needs the fans support more than ever to survive.

So please, to the stay aways, if you say you care about the club you love and want to see it continue, turn up at the games and do your bit.

Maybe the fans don't believe the figures that are quoted that RM claims to put in himself each month, maybe the fans don't believe that their £20 would directly benefit the club, maybe the fans see a web of companies designed to hide the truth.

Agree with all of your points, but you must be a stay away fan if you think we are playing hoofball, we havent done so since before Freddy came back on loan !?! (Crewe Playoff an exception)

As you say though the actual reason for low crowds is being in League Two.

Not played hoofball for ages!

Tuesday night for example we showed some superb passing

Indeed, the style football is actually the one thing (disappointing result vs Barnet aside I still enjoyed the game) that keeps me going, Im enjoying it this year, unlike the same time last year!
