with respect that's total bollocks, this is a club not just a business, stupid comparison

Ive made my views on RM very clear recently, but if you didnt go to a game because you didnt like the chairman you wouldnt have been for over 25 years at least.

When you go to a game you pay money to enjoy a football match, I think Bob made a fair point.

For me the reason why the excitement is lacking is that we don't have any goals left to aspire to. For years the big dream was division two football. We achieved that (twice) and not only is the novelty gone but when we got there we discovered it wasn't all that anyway.

What's there left to do? We've won the League One title, we've beaten Man U, we've had the big finals (play-offs and LDV) at the big stadium.

The second time isn't going to be as good as the first time and I can't get overly excited about the prospect of being promoted to the third division for the fifth time of whatever it is in my lifetime/years of supporting. What realistic goals have we got left to achieve that won't just be repeats of what's gone before?

Wasn't Capello sacked from Madrid after winning La Liga because he didn't do it with the style and panache that was required? I remember reading that the board and fans have grown so accustomed to success that now merely winning things isn't enough, they need to do with free-flowing football. Obviously, three years of Barcelona dominance may have changed that, but their managerial appointments since Capello have all been made to encourage entertainment.

I can completely understand the "been there, done that" attitude. I was acutely aware that beating Manchester United at home whilst competing in the Championship, having sealed promotion as champions a few months before, was probably as good as it was ever likely to get for this club, so made the most of it. Without a Madejski-esque chairman who's willing to pump the required money into the club to establish ourselves in the same kind of bracket as Reading, then we'll be a yo-yo club for a long time yet.

Not it's not a stupid comparison. Your saying you won't pay money to WATCH the football unless you can be sure where your money is going? But your not investing? Your paying to watch the game of football. This 'I pay to come so I should say how the club is run syndrome' is at every football club, so I don't expect it to be any different at our Club. But in essence your paying a admission fee.

Again this applies to clubs up and down the country but it bugs the hell out of me that Season Ticket Holders feel they are more important then the average fan as well because they've put their money up front. They expect to have a say in the club, expect to have privallages for being STH. In truth you become a season ticket holder not to show your support, but the pure fact it works out cheaper to put your money up front and you know you have your seat there for the season. End of.

Will you be proudly wearing your odeon shirt next time you go to watch a film ?

I'm not actually a film buff myself.. in fact not even a bond fan... I was using the comparison of a business that uses a form of entertainment to make money. However... at the cinema I would buy the extras of the Drink, Popcorn etc...

I can see your point that a football club to supporters is a Club first and a business second, but from the clubs point of view it has to be run as a business first.
