I feel our attacking players confidence must be sky high, that they step on the pitch, knowing they have strong & powerful central back behind them. They will think, if they score a goal or two, they will believe 3 points is in the bag.

Remember when Callum Powell posted this - do we think this has been close to happening all along, or just things have rather quickly progressed?

The club has stayed in touch with him all summer, he has been desperate to come back here. Been trying to get a deal done with Sheff Utd for some time but club and player were in a stand off. As time has gone on, I guess Sheff Utd have blinked first as the faced up to him refusing to sign a new contract, him not wanting to go anywhere else but here (whether on loan or on permanent), and them therefore being lumbered with an unhappy player wasting his time and their time and money running down the last year of his contract and rotting in the U23s.

This is serious business by blues and you have to say that, when fully fit, we have one of, if not the most exciting squads in the league.

Steeeeeve in goal and Andeng-Ndi has been awesome the last couple of games - solid choices.

At centre back we have 4 exciting young players, all with decent sell-on potential and who even without Lopata, has conceded the fewest goals so far this season of anyone in the league. They may be young, but that doesn’t mean inexperienced. Hobson, Lopata and Lomas know what it takes to succeed at this level.

At wing backs, we have a good mix of youth and experience, with Ralph and Scott-Morriss being our best options and what options they are! JD and Clifford are solid back ups and versatile too.

Midfield is strong too with a mix of defensive and attacking players. Fonguck and Miley are great together and Wood is a great back up - let’s not forget Husin too!

Up top we have proven goal scorers - Hyde, Murphy, Wreh, who when all fit will provide selection headaches galore! The creativity of Powell, Mooney and Bridge is to be envied at and the hold up play of Cardwell is what every #9 wants.

You have to say this is a very exciting time to be a Southend fan (weirdly seeing as we’re NL) and I hope this squad delivers over the next season or two. You have to wonder though, if we don’t get out of this league in the next 2 seasons, will we lose all these players over time and be left empty handed again?

Two comments from the Blades fan forum:

He must have loved his time in Southend. Sounds like he just wants to enjoy playing somewhere he's well loved. I can respect that. Not sure what we're doing from a Blades perspective though. Hopefully we've got a good sell on clause.

I like Kacper, I’ve got to know him a bit since he was on Sheff United Way and I know he just wants to be happy, appreciated and to play regular football. He’s ambitious and very talented. I personally believe he’ll play at a far higher level soon and wish him nothing but the best. He’ll get the adulation he deserves from Southend supporters.

Any idea where he is in terms of fitness/match fitness? His Instagram posts made it look like he’s missed a lot of preseason
It’s always been the case that in the end if the player wants to be somewhere badly enough and plays hard ball, and the club he wants to be at want him badly enough, it will happen. Kasper has made it clear for some time he wants to come back.

If it was a permanent there would be a very big sell on clause I’m sure. Can’t see a loan unless the deal with Sheff U I’ll signe s new deal IF you loan me back to Southend for a season? Fascinating to see which it is.

Either way stunning piece of business.

It's funny. When we was football league there was always disappointment when the transfer window closed and we rarely made a decent last day signing. Now we are non league we made a great signing on the last day of the football league transfer window
The EFL transfer deadline was always going to be the point at which Sheff needed to get the cow over the bucket
