What I will say, back on the topic of signings, is that the new article from CP with Maher about new signings is a positive sign.

With managers, you have some who love talking to the media, and drip feeding bits of information, such as PB, and some managers play their cards very close to their chase and only “provide” stories when something is happening, ala Maher. Also, MM wasn’t a fan of the media side of things either, whether that was in general or because it was his first shot at league football with us I don’t know.

Managers have a duty with press conferences in the build up to games, and then post match, but other than that they can remain silent. Maher won’t come out and say we are close to signing a striker, who played in league one last season, for example. PB would give that bit of information we as fans love because we can try and guess the player in question.

I’m led to believe, we are close on three players, not the loanees. Two have been mentioned on here, and won’t be too difficult to guess, but I’m not sure on the third player, but I’m working on it. I believe they are at different stages of “close”, so I don’t think we will do an Aldershot and announce 8 in a day for example.

Also, worth noting with Aldershot for example, these 8 signings they made, can have been made at completely different times over the summer, but the Club have choose to announce them all together. I’ve not looked at the players they’ve signed, but I’m assuming all free agents. Technically, a free agent is still being paid by their “club” until the end of June, and new deals with Clubs start on the 1st July. If they don’t find a new Club, they do get an extra months wages too.

What you tend to find, is the players who come from elsewhere and are taking a drop in wages to sign for us, will agree everything, but not put pen to paper with a new club until they have taken the last of their “higher” wages. Which, when you think about it, makes perfect sense.

Some decent signings from Aldershot there. In McQuoid and Cordner they've taken two of the best players from admittedly a dreadful Weymouth side, but Effiong is an impressive capture. Woking fans really liked him and hoped he would stay.

We weren’t under an embargo when I said we weren’t.

It came a couple of days later. This has been explained.
So expect the embargo this time a couple of days later?
Staff haven't been paid and we were about to sign players and the excuse is everyone is on holiday but the rest of the division have been making loads of signings. Like others have said it looks like embargo time. At least we got a couple of signings in this time. Obviously staff need to be paid before we look to bring people in.

Next year I would like the embargo in April rather than Jan and/or june/July so we can get players in first

I’m staying out of the non-playing staffs wages. That’s for other people to speculate on.

I know all the playing staff, including those we have released, are all up-to-date with their wages.

Not everybody is on holiday. But, a quick look on social media will show an awful lot of players/agents/other people involved in transfers are away.

Tom Clifford is currently on holiday, Zak Brunt is currently on holiday, Stan either is or has just come back, Maher has been away twice. Callum Powell was away with Clifford & Lewis Gard, Steve Arnold has been on holiday, Louis Lomas has been on holiday. The footballing world get a small window where they can take time off.

Also, we’ve had a pandemic, so everyone that can get away is going away as we haven’t been able to for a few years. Some players have weddings/honeymoons etc that have all been postponed. Family gatherings etc.

The weather is fantastic today, why not get outside and enjoy it if you can. Signings will be announced in due course. We won’t go into the new season with our squad as it is at 09:12 on 17th June, so just enjoy the weather, and not worrying about if our star player will make the game at the weekend, or a massive 6 pointer to come, or the usual stresses and worries with have on the pitch during the season.

All about mid-table quality though. Not saying Aldershot couldn't turn that into a decent unit that punch above their weight. I'd be underwhelmed if SUFC signed any of that lot apart from maybe Effiong.

Aldershot will be happy with mid table, they haven't got the finances to get back into the league. They lost Lewis Kinsella in the Summer a very decent defender who was unlucky to be released by us a few years ago.

Is that true that staff have not been paid on time? If so it's a total disgrace! (Regardless of job title)

Yes they have. We were playing them in the league 10 or so years ago. It was (partly) thanks to their dodgy electrics that we missed out on automatic promotion in the 11/12 season.
For the avoidance of doubt:

Aldershot Town Football Club is a professional association football club based in Aldershot, Hampshire, England. The team competes in the National League, the fifth tier of the English football league system. The club was founded in the spring of 1992 after the closure of debt-ridden Fourth Division club Aldershot.

Initially placed in the Isthmian League Third Division, Aldershot Town won the league in their debut 1992–93 season and won promotion out of the Second Division the following season. They won the First Division title in 1997–98 and the Premier Division in 2002–03 to gain a place in the Conference. They spent five seasons in the Conference, losing twice in the play-offs, before winning promotion into the Football League as Conference National and Conference League Cup champions under Gary Waddock's stewardship in 2007–08. They spent five seasons in League Two, reaching the play-offs in 2010, though were relegated back into non-league football and entered administration in May 2013.[1] They reached the National League play-offs in 2017 and 2018.

Surprised to hear about non playing staff not being paid as I know my 2 relatives have been paid
