Brilliant response. Personally just as the season end couldn't come quick enough due to the poo performanceson the pitch I think the same can be said for TBV. Maybe spend the summer trying to work out what it is you are trying to achieve because I'm not convinced you are bringing a benefit to the club at the present time. I see one of the original founders of the BV doesn't appear to be involved anymore so perhaps it really is time for a re-think.

Smiffy has too much on and it's hard to get people to help but I have plans over the summer

Glad to see you have plans over the summer - perhaps one starting point would be to get behind the team when things aren't going brilliantly and not to single out individuals as scape goats. That's what places like the zone are for!! The BV should lead by example and try and lift the support around the ground and not be responsible for creating the negativity.

That's a bit harsh there to be fair plenty of times this season we have gone behind we have got behind the team!

I thought the chant of 'Southend's, Southend's number three' were a bit harsh seeing as I thought the BV were there to cheer on the team and support them and not to abuse them.

I'm generalising - I know you create good atmospheres at times. But you will never get full credit when things like the Straker bashing happens.

No wonder people don't want to go and stand behind the goal when they have to listen to that type of moronic singing!

I don't like the "we sing on our own" song and that's basically The Blue Voice's anthem. Don't get me wrong I stand in the North occasionally.

It is true, TBV needs a rethink. Things like the Straker song puts people off. The idea is to entice people into standing behind the goal.

Getting back in the North - master stroke and fully behind it.
A dedicated singing section - YEP, good.
The actual direction of the singing and chanting - rethink needed.

To be fair TBV usually try to lift the spirits when we're playing badly, and there's usually a lot more positivity coming from the North Bank than the rest of the ground when we're losing. Of course the chants aren't always positive, but I've lost count of the amount of times I've seen fans in other stands verbally abusing our players when they are playing poorly whilst the North Bank try to positively encourage them (which the players often acknowledge as very helpful).

I'm not saying that everyone in the North Bank is a saint and we certainly have our moments, but when you look at the bigger picture I think we've done more good for this club than damage. And given the team's performance this season despite our tireless support home and away, I'm sure TBV can be excused for feeling a bit negative yesterday.

Hard to know where to begin. Blue Voice my ar*e. The other side were playing in red and they helped them more than us. Our left back, OUR left back goes off for the summer with the chants of those pricks ringing in his ears. We do ourselves no favours by allowing one group of supporters to set themselves apart as our singing section/supporters representatives, especially when they can't come up with one interesting chant between them. They don't represent me and yesterday showed just how past their sell by date they've become.

I agree..to a degree.
TBV have in the past been a massive help. Crawley last season> The Belford performance was hugely inspired by fantastic support from The North Bank. It contributed to an important point - against the odds.

However, I do think TBV tend to enjoy representing themselves rather than supporting Southend United. One or two senior members are in it for the kudos and worship from the younger children. That is where it begins to go badly wrong.
Popular chants replace those that support our lads and urge them on when the going gets tough. the paul sturrock chant and mocking our left back are two disgraceful examples.

TBV - get back to supporting our team and encouraging vocal support from other areas of the ground. Stop becoming an embarassement.
You are actually very good - when it is about the team and not yourselves.

C'Mon You shrimpers!

Only once have I ventured into the North and never again !,Seeing youths and grown men goading the away fans or slating their own players fuelled on a cocktail of booze is not my cup of tea.

!

Kevin, you're not wrong. I was a regular in the north bank for years and it can/could be a cauldron. Now, though, it's populated by people who feel deserving of congratulation for playground chants conjured up in the boozer. They're embarrassing at away matches and they now feel empowered enough to abuse our own players at home. I wouldn't be seen dead hanging out with them at away grounds and they're now making attendance in the north bank the mark of a numpty.

Excellent post and very accurate.

I think the word "empowered" is sadly correct. But empowered by a group of admiring kids.
They are probably decent guys, support the club and are well known for that reason.
It is however - all going to their heads!

You get these people at all clubs - how do we stop them? That be the question.

Certainly wasn't as positive as my thread was intended, however after 6 wins at home all season I can understand the frustration in TBV. Roots Hall will never be a fortress while 3/4 of the stadium sit on their hands and only use their voices when we are winning or when abusing our players. I hereby invite you all to Portsmouth away next season where you will witness true support from all around the ground. We need to look and learn.

In fairness. I have never known a time where our vocal support has not been fuelled by booze and have never seen opposing fans without a few booze fuelled. Taunting opposing fans has been a part of football as long as I have been going.

I have, in the past, had a few beers and taunted opposing fans - who probably laughed.

My crticism of TBV is more as I commented earlier in the thread!

True.
HOWEVER..be extremely careful in taunting the booze fuelled Pompey boys n girls ha ha!

I often have several drinks on match days,Strange thing is I have never felt the need to slag off the players or trade childish insults with the away fans,Everyone to their own thing I suppose.

Most of the East stand tend to feel the need to slag off the players, alcohol-fuelled or otherwise. It's not just the North Bank (the NB are just more vocal).
