Post-Match Thread and Ratings SUFC vs **** Bailey's Team

come on... what exaclty did JFC do.. hes tried to get the ball quickly for the free kick, bailey sees this so deliberatly sprint 10 yards to barge into him, JFC just stood there, didn't put his head, at the most he put his hands up as an act of defense as anyone else on here would've done, he was totally cheated, bailey made more contact with his barge into JFC.

as for substitions i thought tilly got it spot on (for once), he was right to keep two up top because they were linking well and causing problems, and he was right to go to midfield four later in the game (although i would've done it as soon as patterson came off) watt wasn't proving to be a good enough outlet and scannell was deservedly knackered. we needed someone who we could give the ball and have a go at charltons defense because we couldn't support our attacks with bodies in the box, and laurent is better than that than spencer. spencer would have probably worked harder and run about more but we needed to gain and KEEP possession more

Terrific effort from everyone, they must be absolutely gutted.

Simon Francis was superb, Mildenhall pulled off some great stops and I thought Paterson and Vernon worked very hard and well together.

How Laurent missed the follow from Francis' free kick, I don't think I'll ever know.

Christophe, If you're going to get sent off for it then do it properly and knock the **** out cold. Bailey is a disgrace to football and to himself.

Must say franciscwas outstanding. You won't catch me saying that for another years but I am bit enough to recognize when a player does well and deffinately did. Just such a shame he only shows what he can do once or twice a season.

Another superb team performance. Frances MOTM without a doubt, closely followed by Paterson and Vernon. Thought our strikers looked dangerous throughout and their movement was superb.

NOt too downheartened this morning, apart from Bailey's cheating thought we coped really well. March is a massive month for us, we'll get a few wins!

Ratings:

Francis 7: A couple of decent free kicks and some decent play, ruined by his switching off for the winner. When the ball was played through he turned almost as sharply as Michael Ricketts, clearly thinking the ball would run through to Mildy and oblivious to Reid being behind him. Switch ON!

.

You have got to be kidding ! He was MOM by a mile.and was NOT at fault for the goal, Mildy anticipated it well, came out(brilliant so far) then changed his mind. If Mildy had carried on I am 100% sure he woiuld ahve got there first> Francis couln't get tight to start with as we were outnumbered, he kept looking, and knew exactly where everyone was . He did NOT switch off, he did know where Reid was! If you must blame someone blame Mildy, or Bailey/JFC. With 11 on the pitch Francis would have been able to have got closer to Reid before the ball was put through.

Do you think there is any chance that Charlton will be so embarressed by Baileys' performance, and i means

the oscar nomination
the playing **** all match (he did FA)
the playing like a scared girl all match

that they could pls put him out on loan to whoever we are playing at home that week. That would be absolute magic !

What one? The one where Mvoto has his eyes shut?

No, Macca's face at the end, which is the photo I linked to, not my fault it doesn't come straight up with that one. There's a similar one with Franno in the extra pics. Try telling me these lads don't care.

I say let's forget about last night and the Norwich defeat for that matter. Did anyone really expect to get any more than a point from either? Let's keep the faith to the extent that in League One in the past three seasons 50 points has kept teams up. Southend have 13 games left and with 32 points so far that means we need to win six games to stay up. We have to play six teams in the bottom ten including three of the bottom five. If we can win those games, and after last night's spirited performance we should be able to, then we will still be in League One at the end of the season! If we can't, then we deserve to go down. Let's get behind the Tilly & Brush and the team regardless of the off the field problems and show our support for the Shrimpers that we all love!
Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside!!
UP THE BLUES!

Francis looked premier$hite class for much of the match. What he did well, he did very, very well. His clearance off the line, his free-kicks (especially the second one). Unfortunately in between there are moments that are non-league, when he switches off - moments when he drifts off and looks to rely on his pace (and for once he was up against a player quicker than him once Reid came on) or where he plays a lazy clearance diagonally across the field that can be easily cut off. One of the most infuriating players I've seen, because when he was good last night, he was exceptional.

No, Macca's face

I really should have guessed that.

Excellent effort from the blues tonight, just hope to see that level of passion and commitment every game from now till the end of the season.

Not going to do individual ratings but a couple of points:

Francis - Exceptional tonight, had arguably the best game ive ever seen him have in a Southend shirt.

Patterson - Played with a maturity and ability of someone much older than 19 - lets just hope he gets a chance to develop here without people expecting too much too soon. im not going to get carried away with him but he looked good tonight and long may it continue.

Baldwin & Vernon - They may be Col U but they certainly played like they were Southend tonight, and a few of our "squad" players should have a look at the way they ran themselves into the ground for "our team".

Tilly - Should be applauded for leaving 2 up front to try and hit them on the break, though IMO made a massive mistake by bringing Laurent on. He is too much of a luxury player to bring on in a game where its so tight. If he wanted width on the right and to give Francis some support then Sankofa should have come on to help keep it tight, as all the Charlton attacks second half were down our right hand side.

I also dont understand what he sees in Malone, the guy is absolutely useless and contributes nothing to our play (and based on Francis' free kicks last night Malone should never go near another set piece ever!)

Anyway, thats my mini rant over, as i dont want to detract from a performance that actually has me believing that we can stay up, that the players are committed, and that we seem to be playing our way back into form.

Agree totally with this, the only other minor thing for me, was Tilly taking Watt off who had defended quite well, and leaving Scannell on for longer who was tired and leaving their left wing wide open for that quick winger to get the cross for the first and then the killer second.

Oh and what a massive surprise, Charlton fans in the home end. Will the club ever learn?

I was there around 7ish while the stadium was filling up, and being back row Block V I get a good view of 3 sections, noticed 2 groups of people with someone on the phone and waving towards the north stand, went and mentioned it to a steward just before KO, but checked around 80 minutes in as they were out of view for most of the game, were still there.

Unless they cause trouble it's unlikely they'll be moved, as ejecting them is likely to be incendiary.

In all fairness, I haven't got a problem with it as long as they behave and they don't antagonise the home fans or celebrate.

Not a chance, they'll lap him and his arrogant, cheating ways up all day long until next summer when Bailey ups and leaves them in yet another career 'dream move' when Charlton fail to get promotion.
I'm sick of players like him getting away with stuff like that. Rolling around the ground and holding his face was a disgrace. But why do the powers that be continue to reward blatant cheating and play-acting with the assumption that a player's down so therefore he must have been struck?!
Was JFC in the wrong for confronting Bailey? Yes, I suppose it was a stupid thing to do, but who wouldn't confront someone who had run 25 yards to barge someone in the back?! It's a fundamental fault of football the ref's fall for this time after time and even more at fault is The F.A. for not instructing their ref's to clamp down on this form of cheating - the ref last night must have known Bailey was conning him!!!
I'm tired of seeing players winning games by cheating and then going unpunished for actions like we saw last night and also in Paris a couple of months ago when France beat Ireland. These cheats keep on getting away with it while those who work hard and are an honest bunch of lads continually suffer.

Just been on the Charlton Forum, jutst trying to guage their reaction, and found this -

Post #18;

Great support in the corner, but the knobs breaking the chairs must surely realise that Charlton have to pay the repair bill.

I'm certain I saw them break most of the lights on the scoreboard too ;)

Just saw the incident with Bailey on the Football League Show. Camera missed it, so can't really appeal.

So that's another cheat who is going to get away with what he done. Makes me so annoyed that players dive and cheat to try and turn a game their way, and then succeeding, and end up getting away with it, ruins the game for others imo. Just goes to show how much of a total p***k Bailey is, the way he acts out on a football pitch is disgraceful.
