Had a bit of Hope over the weekend that we was close to getting the rat out and for some reason today that hope has gone and I’m back to nearly rock bottom

Why, in all seriousness, what have you seen, read or been told that makes you feel like this? If you explain I’ll do my best to respond to ease your fears!

That's great if you live near a train station, if you wanted to drive there is next to no free parking available and any games when the weather is nice you would be struck in all the seafront traffic.

If we move and it's not ff people will have to get used to the idea of a ground being outside of Southend. If it's near a trainline then a purpose built stop could be added otherwise park and ride need's to looked at.
Could you not drive to a nearby station eg Rochford or Hockley and park there?

Also the summer increase in traffic affects us just as much now because Roots Hall is on the main road into Southend.

Love the idea personally, don't think the council has the vision for this one sadly.

What is the Queensway site you're talking about? Is there a plot of land ive never noticed before?!

My nearest station is the airport where parking is permit holders only for the surrounding road and the car park is disgraceful. If I'm driving their I might as well drive the extra few miles to the stadium.

The Queensway site would be the best option for the town and the long term future of the club if anyone is aiming for the Championship.

Two major railway lines and the possibility of a badly needed 4* hotel with conference sand functions facilities. Any bars could be in use all week and plenty of other options all within a 5 minute walk. That is not going to happen at RH and the train would be much better than queuing for 30mins to get out of an 800 space carpark at FF.
Would a stadium fit the site? It looks tight, quite apart from traffic issues it might cause.

As @Sherif H has said, it’s all very likely doable.

My understanding is that if we decide to stay at RH for the long term then lighter renovations can happen for South & West which aren’t structurally significant, whilst the North has a little more scope due to not being so close to housing behind, and the East has the most options, it could be renovated or demolished and rebuilt to be far larger and include modern facilities.

To me this is the dream, but we’ve got another thread about this so I’ll leave it there.
Why cant we have Southend United Ladies playing at Roots Hall? this would alleviate the need for music events. This would mean Roots Hall is used for football every weekend instead of once a fortnight.

Ladies football is becoming more watched and has more interest. We could tap into this as extra revenue stream

Would the pitch be able to handle it, it’s often chewed up halfway through the season just with us playing on it. Perhaps with better preparation it would work.

If you think the ladies playing at Roots Hall would alleviate the need for music events, you are incredibly naive.

No disrespect whatsoever to the ladies team, but it is essentially Sunday league level. This is coming from someone who’s sister in law plays for Southminster ladies, who beat Southend in a cup match. It’s not comparable.

They don't have enough people watching them to be brutually honest. It would cost more to host it than they would get in ticket sales or revenue.

Would be blocked by people living near by you would imagine. I would have suggested the site of the Range

That maybe true but the parking is nearly always full and it is included with some of the packages offered.

Also if more properties are built they will require an amount of parking spaces which could lead to the problems that homes near the airport had and permit parking introduced.
Parking for the residential is all included in the plans -it would limit club parking, and yes its nearly always full. Buts because its there rather than because its necessary...

When we have early cup matches, and we just have the East Stand open, we lose money putting on a match. Same as the old reserve matches that were played at Roots Hall. Same with the FA youth cup matches.

Whilst we wouldn’t have the same overheads in terms of security and so forth, we’d still be putting on these matches at a loss.

Now, once the new training ground is operational, that is a good idea, however at Roots Hall is a complete non starter in a business sense.

Other than name, are the ladies side actually affiliated to the football club in anyway? That’s a genuine question.
